Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Anjanette Comer

    jobla — 10 years ago(May 22, 2015 05:20 PM)

There was some film, probably from the 1970's, that used to air on the Encore Western channel. I think it starred Anjanette Comer, and there was a surprisingly explicit scene in which she was menaced by a group of sleazy cowboys. I was so surprised to see her in a low-budget "roughie" western. Anybody know what the film was titled?

I don't recall her in anything like that. Do you remember any of the other actors in the film?
      No blah, blah, blah!

No, I don't recall any of the others. This odd film was aired a few times on the Encore Western Channel. I was surprised how explicit the film was. I think it was from the 1970's. A group of cowboys lasso her, and have their way with her.
I looked at Comer's IMDB filmography, and I agree that I don't see any apparent matches with what I recall of the film. However, she may not wish to be associated with that film (assuming I'm correct), since it's on the sleazy side.

I wouldn't blame her if true, though I can't find any evidence on the Internet of her ever appearing in something like that. Besides, she was too good of an actress for that type of film.

If that film pops up again, I'll post about it here.

My badthe actress in the sleazy western was Michele Carey, who starred in THE ANIMALS (1970, shown on The Encore Western Channel as FIVE SAVAGE MEN).
I find Anjanette Comer and Michele Carey to be vaguely similar: attractive brunettes with girlish-sounding voices.
I do regret any confusion that my original post may have created, and am now glad to set the record straight.

No problem. There is indeed some resemblance between the two. I also know of the film in question. Some tough goings there early on (I hate rape scenes, FWIW), but at least the resolution was nice.
                  No blah, blah, blah!

Perhaps I was thinking of Anjanette Comer in THE APPALOOSA when I confused her with Michele Carey in THE ANIMALS/FIVE SAVAGE MEN. Or, perhaps I was thinking of Anjantte's similarly titled FIVE DESPERATE WOMEN, which I think was a made-for-TV flick in 1971.
I wouldn't have expected either of those actresses to have starred in a film such as FIVE SAVAGE MEN. I don't think that the film played theatrically in Seattle, where I was living at the time. I was quite surprised by it when I saw it on the Western Channel. It was briefly on home video from some small label that may or may not have acquired the rights.
At least the mystery has finally been solved.

I don't consider the film to be a roughie western, despite the nudity and storyline. Definitely not something I would want to watch with the kiddies, mind you, but it was a mainstream, though low-budget offering. Around the time of the film, if you were an attractive woman and wasn't an A-list actress, it seemed like the only way you could make a living in the movies was to bare a lot of skin. When the frontal nudity ban disappeared around 1970, the floodgates really opened.
BTW, A-list actress Raquel Welch did a similar-themed film around the same time named
                      Hannie Caulder
. Since she was a big-name star at that time, no nudity required for her. It's a much better film, FWIW.
                      No blah, blah, blah!
