My name is Erik Greene and I am Sam's great-nephew. My grandmother was Sam's oldest sister, Mary. I'm pleased to have read most of the positive remarks about Sam and his music left here from his fans worldwide.
I don't know if most of you are aware, but Sam's Fan Club here in America has a tribute to his life and music every year. This year it will be in Chicago September 28-30. If you are interesting in attending, there may still be spaces available. You can get more information at:

Incidentally, I am the author of "Our Uncle Sam: The Sam Cooke Story From His Family's Perspective", the most introspective look at Sam's life, music, and death ever written. I tell Sam's saga as it should be toldfrom the perspective of his sister, brothers, nieces, nephews and children. Sam Cooke was a legendary artist, one of the most pioneering artists of the 20th century, and a family member held in highest regards.

i'm deeply sorry, i havent come by to reply back to ^ (i've been working non stop this summer, and i just only realised to see you replied)
oh me, i'm from London - was born there all of my 17 (almost 18 years towards October of my life)! i personally thim Sam Cooke just, inspirtational (if thats the right word or right spelling)! tho he died so young, i would of thought he would probably been a fantastic sucess, if he were still alive today. as for anything to ask you i cant think at the moment X -

nice to meet u sir my name is mike will i be able to get it in ohio cause i live in youngstown oh or should i just order it. i just started listening to his music he has a beatiful voice kids tease me cause i listen to his music. and i am even doing a report on him for black history month

As kids tease you, just rememeber that it's YOU that's something special. Sam's voice is unique and his sound has been known to captivate young and old alike. If you can recognize the beauty of his music at a young age, just understand you walk in very special company. Read an excerpt from my forward (http://www.ourunclesam.com/author.html) and understand I was the same way! One of the most popular members of Sam's Fan Club is a college student who had been a die-hard fan since her early teens. As a matter of fact, when I want to verify facts about Sam's more obscure works, I often turn to her for her expertise.
Wear you appreciation of Sam's music like a badge of honor. Years later when all the hip-hop/rap artists are forgotten about (and I love both of those genres myself), Sam's music will STILL be appreciated.

o sorry about calling u sir erik but i am going on vacation to atlanta tommorow to visit my grandparents they said they have met sam cooke. they were civil rights activists. well the highschool i go to has a lot of racists kids so thts why they tease me cause i am black and i listen to a black singer i just really dont care about what they say. i might pick it up at a bookstore in atlanta when i fly in there tommorow.

Supposedly there's been a movie in the works, on and off, for the past 20 years or so. But since the recent success of "Ray" and "Walk the Line," I wouldn't be surprised if one was coming soon. Will it tell the total truth? That remains to be seen

Dear Mr. Greene,
When I first heard it suggested that a movie about your uncle's life be made, I welcomed the news. However, after giving it some further thought, I'd have to say that I am against the idea-unless the movie is done as a documentary. What are your thoughts?
