I guess you've never seen silver linings playbook or American hustle
While I didn't like AH, he was good in it and silver linings was the sh!t, especially him.
Anyone that says BC can't act is nothing but a failure themselves that doesn't know winners when they see them. Sorry OP.
Move along! There's nothing to see here

Yeah he is pretty bad. He really tries, but that's precisely why he's bad. He tries way too hard and overacts. But it doesn't surprise me that he's becoming a huge star now. Actual talent isn't the only thing that sells movies, unfortunately. And there will always be people who don't know what real good acting is..

Exactly, that's my point. People have different opinions about acting, and some people see things that others don't. It comes down to what YOU think good acting is. So there will always be fans of Cooper. But maybe as they see more movies with much better acting, they will gain a deeper appreciation of great acting like I did.

You contradicted yourself. Before you had said, "Yeah, he's pretty bad," but now you say it "comes down to what YOU think good acting is." So now, in other words, you're saying it's all relative and there's no absolute truth about quality of acting. Therefore your original statement"he's pretty bad"can't be true, because you stated it as an absolute irrespective of personal opinion.
If you had simply said, in the first place, "I don't find him convincing," nobody could've argued with that, and you wouldn't have had any need to qualify/contradict yourself. -

Couldn't agree more, coolbrett. Yes, he does all the right things, goes through all the motions in great detail - but we can see his technique, the fact that he's applying himself. He doesn't quite live the part. It really takes me out of the movie. I cannot fathom how amazing directors like David O. Russell can't see it. Massively over-rated actor and very often, an annoying presence on screen.

Yes. He's the male Anne Hathaway, although mercifully he doesn't mug relentlessly at the camera as she does. He
is
just as self-conscious as she is - everything he does onscreen is for effect and is completely false. He couldn't disappear into a role if he tried. -

I have watched Silver Lining Playbook. Jennifer Lawrence carried him. Same can be said about the entire cast of American Hustle. He tried so hard in both movies to push himself above everyone. It became annoying after 30 minutes.

I'd rather watch a Reeves movie than BC. Reeves is bad for completely different reasons though.
Examples of great actors acting - check out Jack Lemmon in 'Save the Tiger' and Gene Hackman in 'Mississippi Burning', 'French Connection I & II'; Jack Nicholson in 'About Schmidt', 'As good as it gets'; Gary Busey in 'The buddy holly story'.
