That's because the dancers on the show are usually TINY!
I went to the Season 7 tour and met all the dancers backstage I'm only 5'7 and I was taller than almost everyone5b4 there (except Robert, Allison, and Kathryn who were about my height/an inch taller).
Added with the heels she looks MUCH taller than I think she really is.

It must be some sort of aging ex-model insecurity thing that drives her to wear such outrageously high heels - they are 4" at a minimum.
She's already naturally tall for woman - why does she have to tower over everyone on stage? If it was a man doing something equally baffling everyone would say he's over compensating for something else

Funny thing is her IMDb profile referring as her trademark presenting her shows barefooted! I always notice the huge heels and actually remember her saying in a interview that they kept making her use high heels as if she wasn't tall enough

Yes, it's always been a puzzle to me how much taller she is then the dancers. It's especially obvious when she side hugs them after they perform. There have been tall guys on the show, but knocks them out of the park. Gorgeous either way.
