You better check your stats there Spidey. Pneumonia is not a leading cause of death among young adults; only the elderly and very young children. Most people fully recover in a matter of weeks.
Not me, I don't care what happens!

Yes, it's very serious when babies, young children, and the elderly are affected by it. In my family, my 65-year old mother and also a four-year old nephew both ended up hospitalized because of it. My mother had a 50% chance of survival, was in intensive care for two weeks, and then needed four weeks to recover. It's extremely serious and certainly can lead to death.

Yes it is serious, but with proper care and treatment, people5b4 can recover from it. Had Nicole had a proper diagnosis, she'd probably be alive.

Yes, pneumonia is curable but still there are a lot of fatalities. It all depends on how quickly it gets diagnosed, and how your immune system deals with it. In Nicole's case, it probably was a combination of both. And she is not even the only actress to lose her life to the illness:
          http://www.imdb.com/board/20001020/
Sadly, no matter what action is taken against the doctors/hospitals responsible, there's no bringing Nicole back.
          -Goodnight, mother of six!
          -Goodnight, father of two!

It looks like Heath Ledger also had this, but sadly he died from overdose, not through this illness. And now, Bernie Mac had this same problem, but he died from it. He was middle-aged too. This is so devastating.

I don't know what kind of drugs the OP is on, but pneumonia is very curableprovided it is in a healthy adult and is caught early. Pneumonia is not lung cancerit is NOT a death sentence. My grandpa died from pneumonia last decemberbut that's because he was 87, was bone thin, had really bad dementia, and had it in BOTH lungs. He he been younger and more healthy in general (and had not wanted to die), he probably would have recovered.
What happened to this young actress is that she was misdiagnosed several timesjust as Heather O'Rourke was misdiagnosed many times before dying of a bowel obstruction.

Yes being misdiagnose is what really caused her death or she had underlying sickness!!!

I am sorry to inform you, but the OP is correct. As a doctor (I am a neurosurgeon not a pulmonary specialist) I know of the many and varied strains of the illness. Death from pneumonia is more common than people think. It it more likely that the very young and old will die from one of the strains, but young and healthy people can be struck down as well. This is on the rise with MRSA strains. Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death in the world, people just aren't as aware of the danger of pneumococcal illness in the developed countries.
