While still a lot of movies deals with his height.
seems like his role in the upcoming pixel could have been given to any guy of normal height..
seems like he was just picked as an actor.

He may be the first "little person" (I say that because I understand that's the acceptable term) to become accepted as an actor, and not just as "a little person actor". It obviously has a great deal to do with his fantastic performance as Tyrion, which marked something of a first in that he had one of the leading roles and his stature has never been played for laughs.
Probably thanks to his work as Tyrion, when watching him in X-Men: Days of Future Past, I found that I wasn't paying attention to his stature at all. More just marveling at his badassery. Respect.

I dunno Zelda Rubinstein was shorter than Dinklage and she had quite a successful career. Her biggest role was probably Tangina, the medium in "Poltergeist", and that had no focus on her height that I recall. She was on "Picket Fences" for years, too. But Dinklage may well be the first male LP actor to transcend his height.

You realize he wouldn't have got the chance to play Tyrion , if he wasn't a "little guy"?
Hopefully this does lead to more roles that aren't simply due to his height. The guy is just a great actor.
Although one role I'd like to see him play , that relies on his stature is Miles Vorkosigan, he's a badass in Tyrion's class. -

my point being he plays little people because (brace yourself) he IS a little person, and like others have said, he isn't as typecast as you think -

That's actually not true at all. In the lord of the rings, the four main hobbits were played by average size actors and Gimli the dwarf was played by a 6 ft actor. There are other movies but I think i've made my point.

I'm tellin ya, when i see that beard and think about his voice and acting skills the first thing I think of is that he'd d a fantastic nob playing a Klingon. Yes, I know it is "against type", but still I think hed9rock it out.

There is nothing wrong with being a dwarf obviously, but just like he can't play a 2 meter tall northerner, I couldn't play a dwarf
