Hahaha. I was about to post this. Even though he may be a nice guy in real life and all, I will never see him as a good guy ever again.

If that were the case I'd hate him forever from his part in SleepersA couple of actors have said time and again that being able to play a part with no good qualities whatsoever is freedom to them. They don't have to care if you can find something to like about part they playSo as far as I'm concerned anyone getting so involved in a part that someone "hates" them for it high praise indeed.By the way he was just as unlikable in "Hitch". Only with all his martial arts training he might could have kicked Will Smith's butt. lol

I feel the same way about him, for no other reason than his appearance. He just looks like a grade A douche to me. Cocky and so full of himself. I can just imagine him being extremely chauvinistic and a chronic womanizer. Like you though, this is completely unfounded and only going on appearance and general attitude in interviews I have seen of him. He may very well be a saint and a perfectly nice gentleman.

in his interactions on the season one DVD commentaries he sounds like he's getting along fine with the others, male & female, and having a good time. we haven't seen the other seasons yet, so I'm basing my opinion on that alone. I'd never heard of him before BN, so characters I've seen him play before weren't THAT memorable to me

Please this is a ridiculous thread. Judging a person based on a character they play? Seriously? The only good thing I can say about this is he is obviously a good actor if someone would claim to dislike him based on a fictional character.

The only time I've seen him was in The Pretender when he played Kyle, Jarod's brother.

I completely agree with how he comes off as a grade A egotistical douche that is so incredibly full of himself, or at least this is the impression I get from him watching him in the recent commercial ads for Burn Notice. I generally do not enjoy watching characters like this, and this probably has a large part to do with why I've yet to actually watch a single episode. It becomes a concern for them when this attitude is what keeps people away from watching the show. He also doesn't come across as someone who can act very well - right there in the commercial. Sure, its a quick judgment and possibly wrong, but you know what they say about first impressions.

Note that he got this part because of his role in Touching Evil http://www.imdb.com/board/10404509/
If you want to see him in another, perhaps more sympathetic light, check out his performance as Dave Creegan.

you're right about one thing, Ray. well, two you made a quick judgment and it is wrong.
And you got all that "grade A egotistical doucheso incredibly full of himself" from a 30 second commercial???
I, too, was not familiar with Donovan before seeing an episode of "Burn Notice". And I only watched that because a friend's brother had a 3-episode part in the 2nd season (as Fiona's EMT boyfriend, "Campbell".) My friend doesn't actually like BN, but I was hooked then and there.
To those who doubt Donovan's acting ability, I would suggest watching the movie, "Believe In Me" (2006). His character is engaging, humble and full of enthusiam. He played the part so well, that after the first 20 minutes or so, I totally stopped seeing him as "Michael Westen" and he became "Clay Driscoll, basketball coach."
Once I've seen an actor do a character over and over, such as in BN, I usually have trouble seeing him as any other sort of person. Not this time, and now I've even more a fan of Jeffrey Donovan than I was before.
So, y'all, forget "first impressions" in this case. IMHO

That's the reason I held off for so long even trying to watch Burn Notice. I had seen him in a couple of things before Burn Notice and my daughter was talking about how great the show was. I told her I just couldn't get into it because I didn't like the actor Jeffrey Donovan. Something about the way he looked just did not sit well with me at all.
I finally tried watching Burn Notice, which by then had been on for two years so I had to play catch up, and really enjoyed the show. I suppose that was the tipping point. I loved Burn Notice and I now look at his shows/films in a different light.
But, I have to agree with you, it was something about his appearance that really put me off in the beginning. He is very good at playing slime-balls because of that look. He is a very good actor as well but that "grade A douche" look makes him so much more believable in some of his roles.

I saw Changeling after I started watching Burn Notice. I sort of agree with you on it. I love him more in BN than I hate him in Changeling. He's a great actor.

I just watched all of the "Touching Evil" shows and I have to say I am really impressed with his acting. I've never seen his movies, but he's good on Homicide, Milennium, and Monk and of course, Burn Notice. I think he's a really nice person. Playing an evil role is always a lot of fun, from what I've heard. So don't think he's really like that! It just shows his talent.

Really? This is just absurd! Hating an actor just because of a part he played? How judgmental can you be to hate a person because of a movie! Just ridiculous!

Valpat, I am complete agreement with you and other supp2000orters. "Believe in Me" was amazing, and it truly shows how talented this man is. Good for him if he made some viewers hate his character; it means he's doing his job well.
Wow; it's quite surprising that some cannot look past a role and ultimately judge a person by their fictional character. It's like dealing with children and explaining to them that the characters on screen are just actors.
Well, it just comes down to them missing out on some great stories, with Jeffrey Donovan or any other actor they now "hate" after watching.
                                        A strange thread indeed

yeah, im watching it right now. I have never felt this anger of someone over a movie before, and the fact that its actually based on a true story just makes me even more angry. I cant believe the massmedia in the world with all their cover ups. This is insane!
