You will never see a white Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, or Malcolm X, so why do a BLACK Bond, Jim West, or James T. Kirk?
What? That doesn't make sense. The reason why no white man can ever play Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammed Ali and Malcolm X is because these men are NOT fictional characters. Unlike James Bond, Jim West and James T. Kirk, who ARE fictional characters. Try again.

Robert Downey Jr. could play all three in black face.

        THANK YOU!
        I've made this point before.
I'm not a big Bond fan. I'm not in a hurry to have my fav actors in the role but why not have a black Bond?

Because Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, or Malcolm X are real people. they aren't suggesting a black actor play a real person who is white. The only famous Black Characters that that people would be up and arms about being changed to white are those characters who's main Character component is that they are black. James Bond is just a kick as smooth MI6 agent. Besides, he would be a much better Bond than Roger Moore. I mean Daniel is simply Aces, and by the time he is too old to be Bond so will Chiwetel Ejiofor. But i definitely think he should be considered for the next Doctor. He is simply Brilliant!

YOUR COMMENT SHOW OVERWHELMING IGNORANCE! MLK, ALI, MALCOLM X WERE/ARE REAL HUMAN BEINGS! IMPORTANT HUMAN BEINGS! BOND IS NOT REAL. ONLY A RACIST OR A MORON OR A RACIST MORON WOULD NOT KNOW HOW beep STUPID YOUR COMMENT WAS. Sorry to break it to you but Idris Elba has meet with the producers about taking over Bond after Daniel Craig!

Could he carry it off? Easily, I'd say. His work on Serenity showed just about everything he needs. He was suave, charming, but could switch to sinister and cold in a heartbeat, plus his action sequences were great.
The man simply carries himself well.
That been said, I wouldn't be in favour of it. There was enough fan disapproval when Bond's hair changed colour.
Fleming wrote him as white Scottish descent and resembling Hoagy Carmichael. The more you change the character's roots, the less he resembles Bond.
The day may come when he's played by a cro5b4ss-dressing, tap-dancing four foot tall Thai man with a penchant for break-dancing, but it's not a day I want to see.
It's not like Chiwetel is going to struggle for roles any time soon. He's a talented guy, but I'm never in favour of making unnecessary changes to an already established character.

He could probably play someone like a super agent like Bond. Bond is Bond and he's not black. It's like Superman..and no I'm not talking about Shaq. I think blacks should make their own characters and not take characters that were already developed that way. Find their own path.

You're missing the point, Tabbby. I'm not a fan of Bond flicks in the sense they are meant to be taken: 5b4as admirable fantasies about the prerogatives of the white male. For me, they are entertaining only because they are so laughably pathetic. But cast Chewie in the lead and you accomplish several things: (1)you get a charismatic Bond whose fight scenes and love scenes will have much more power precisely because this Bond is a "subaltern" Bond, (2) you get a postmodern parody of all the Bond flicks that have come before (and I mean, come on, who can take the pre-Craig Bonds seriously anymore?) (3) you get a thoroughgoing subversion of the whole imperialist agenda in the Bond films.
In other words, cast Ejiofor and the Bond films become more openly, nakedly political than ever before, but progressive this time, rather than reactionary.

                            Seriously, it will never happen.
Whatever his acting talents, that name is so unusual that it would not sound good in a trailer:
                            "Chiwetel Ejiofor IS James Bond!"
                            Don't see it.

                              Chiwetel Ejiofor As James Bond
Barrack Hussein Obama as President of the United States
                              YES IT COULD HAPPEN,SOON.
The man played, a male transvestite comedy "Kinky Boots", a master of all things Judo in "Redbelt", two times he has gone up toe to toe with Denzel Washington in the "Inside Man", "American Gangster" never breaking a sweat. In Children of Men he was brilliant.
Last point, he is lucky, its the thing that matters most in hollywood. He has made very few flops.Salt was a hit etc. He is at the perfect stage to get the role. Frankly I would pay to see him in a Bond movie. I think ther7ece would be a line. Acting wise I think it would be easy, he also can handle the action (see "Redbelt").
Idris Elba seems a bit to something. Part of it is he is a very big guy. I also have just finished watching two seasons of "Luther" so that image has clouded me, I could just listen to Elba say "ALice" all day beautiful accent.

Please, a dollar for every beep on imdb that has started a thread on a black actors page saying 'he could be bond'. How about we keep Bond white and british!!?? Black actors might start to get annoyed that they have to keep trying to 'live up' to an interpretation of a well known white character. Seems like IMDB is full of race-shamed people who claim black actors can play any character just to lessen their own white-shame. Stop being racist people! The Fresh Prince is black, Bond is white. Get over it! Or, let's remake Shaft as a white guy, I'm sure no one will bitch and moan like the whiney pussies that they are about that decision

                                    Completely DISagree.
As any fully informed James Bond fan will tell you, Ian Fleming was an apologist for British imperialism and the hegemony of the white man. He was motivated to develop the Bond character precisely because of his own low morale as self-style member of the postwar British elite. We NEED to subvert his apologia for British empire and the "white man's burden" if we want to call ourselves true democrats, and what better way to do that than to cast a classy, smooth, intelligent, charismatic black man as Bond?
Perhaps it is unfair to say that only white supremacists would be incensed by such a tweaking, but certainly 100% of that group would be, while those of us who appreciate the semiotics of Bond would thoroughly enjoy the parody.

In a recent interview Naomi Harris said producers of Bond met with Idris Elba to discuss being cast as the next Bond. I for one would've loved to have seen Chiwetel as Bond.
Chiwetel's got the looks, the charm/suave/sex appeal, and he's tough and can put up a good fight. Idris is a wonderful actor and I'm sure can fit the bill but in my opinion tries incredibly hard to be sexy which is a little bit of a turn off. I dunno. Just my 2 cents.
In other news, can't wait to grab my tickets to go home to see Chiwetel at Young Vic in Aim Csaire's 'A Season In The Congo'.
