There is NOTHING about Bond that implies he must be white. John Shaft is a character that would not make sense as being white. Easy Rawlins would not make sense to have a white actor play. Isn't Shaft's physical description in his theme song? Isn't manynof Rawlin's dilemmas informed by being a black man in a certain time period? You're arguing apples and oranges man. Bond should be a suave and lethal secret agent. I never sat down and thought "hmmm, what black actor could be 007?" I was watching Serenity and just thought, that dude could be a killer James Bond. It sounds like the one with race issues is you barrybass. I have no way of knowing if you are really black. What I do know is that if a character's main attributes do not specifically rely on a race or that the character isn't partially defined by their ethnic heritage I don't think a variety of actors should be excluded BECAUSE of their race. I do think the media and Hollywood tend to offer a lot of token character changes (why make Thor a woman instead of create a new character for example?). It can be patronizing. In this case we're talking the right guy for the role. Ejiofor comes off like the right guy for the role. Did you go insane when they cast a black actor as Felix in Never Say Never Again or the rebooted Craig films?

cygnus You may read what you like into my opinion. I believe I have stated it clearly enough. I stated why I felt the way I did and it had nothing to do with the actors or their ability but
the character
. I would hate to see a black Bruce Wayne just as I hated Ben Kingsly as The Mandarin and Will Smith as Jim West.. even forgetting about the horrible script. We did not need a black Ralph and Ed. Nor would I have appreciated a white Al Simmons.. it is largely about the character for me and being true to that
established
character. I am opposed to changing key features of established primary characters
any established primary characters
just because. Felix, Moneypenny,Q and M are all
peripheral
characters. Of course Easy or Shaft would never be cast as white.. the characters are not white. I am a huge fan of both Idris and Chiwetel long since before they both blew up. I would LOVE to see a Luther film.. and I like the direction the Bond films are going in.. Apparently they
do
intend to introduce Chiwetel (see Bond 24 rumored)
, and hopefully not as a villain.. because then of course Bond would wind up killing him and that would be the end of that.. He would go to the Bond villain graveyard never to be heard from again, whereas if he were another 00 .. then maybe we could get a spinoff .. We shall see. Daniel Craig is the most believable Bond I have seen all the lethality and vulnerability.. Connery is always going to be the man just as Shatner will always be the quintessential Kirk but Craig is doing a great job as Bond and I hope he can pull off a few more films before he gets too old to do the stunts. I was one of those folks who said.. "A blonde Bond!!???
" but he brings something to the role that has never been seen.. not even from Connery. I stopped watching Bond during the whole Roger Moore thing.. after his second film I was done and did not find a Bond film I could enjoy till Brosnan took up the mantle. I would much rather see Chiwetel as a new 00 that gets established in the next Bond film(s) and then comes into his own with a spinoff film. I would love to see him in the lead role based on this book:
The Black Count: Glory, Revolution, Betrayada0l, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo by Tom Reiss
. Now that would be a GREAT film based on a true story of the father of Alexander Dumas who wrote the 3 Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. Those charactyers were all based on his father.. the subjecty of this book. The book was a very good read.
As for my ethnicity.. I have no reason to lie about it. Just because I don't think that casting an incredibly gifted black actor in the role of Bond just because it has never been done, or even worse.. just because, does not give me "race issues" or make me a liar who would claim a heritage that is not mine just to make a point.
This subject matter is not that important to me
. Whether or not you believe that does not matter to me and it is certainly not worth me insulting you just because you disagree with me. -

Personally i hope he doesnt become a bond if they let bond be black.I think james bond films are wayyy overrated. They only recently got good in my opinion i think chiwetel is better than that.
My mother would show up on time and know all her lines but who wants to pay to see my mother? -

Yeah i could see chewy doing a black bond type role i just think that bond in general is dumb .Its a role more suited for a movie star its beneath someone like chewys talents n skills to sink to.
You see things; and you say,But I dream things that never were; and I say Why not? -

Yes, he could be James Bond.
Redbelt
proves it. Probably other stuff does too but I never really noticed him before even though I saw
Serenity
; reflecting back, he was pretty good in that. I do remember the guy who couldn't take his eyes off that woman's jugs in
Inside Man
though. Just realized that was him. Great acting, that was.
Dalton's JB run was meh, Brosnan's was even worse, and Craig's run was a mixed bag (1 really good film, 1 pretty good film, and 2
really
bad ones). I say give Chiwetel a chance if he wants it, but I agree with others that it would probably typecast him in a way he doesn't want or need to be typecast.
