Why didn't he direct IM3?

Although I admit the first 40 min of the movie were the best of the franchise I also have to confess that the history got loose and out of pace afterwards, specially in the mandarin spitting fire scene and in revealing his true identity. With all theseve ben said, I just wonder, WTF wasnt Jon Favreau directing IM3? This could have been another epic marvel accomplishment.

From what I understand, IM2 was basically wrestled away from him, he didn't have final cut, he was forced to shoehorn in all the other characters, and it basically turned him off of doing anything else for Marvel. I heard he basically told his agent to not even put in his name for IM3.
