Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Stephen Hawking

I believe people that deny god's existence are usually those that hold grudges in life. Thinking why me, why would I deserve this?

No, Stephen Hawking does NOT hold a grudge against god. Stephen Hawking is quintessentially an atheist. He is rather bland about the subject probably because he doesn't want to face public scrutiny. But he is a scientist first. From his point of view, before the universe existed there was nothing, not even time. And if time didn't exist then a god couldn't exist, simple as that. Besides that, in any material I've ever watched or read about or from him, he has never said that he blames god or any other supernatural beings for his disability. He believes that physics and the laws of nature created the universe we live in today. He has also stated that he does not believe there is an afterlife. He has personally gone against the pope and the catholic church to pursue the secrets of the universe.
You also have to realize that Hawking was a scientist and pursuing his degree in physics BEFORE he had ALS. Since he was a kid, he probably always questioned the existence of a god or afterlife. The whole weird part about this, though I always wondered if a god exist, did he purposely give Stephen Hawking ALS so he wouldn't be able to give away all the secrets of the universe to humanity?
Personally I am an open agnostic. I strongly agree with Stephen Hawking's laws of nature and how the universe works. But at the same time, his famous "big bang theory" is still just a theory. It has never been proven of of how the universe has come into existence exactly. What made the spark that ignited the big bang? And how can a single explosion contain the mass of the entire existing universe? Is there multiple universes out there? Do we live in a "multiverse" and in one of those other multiverse's does a god an afterlife exist? These are the kind of questions that keep me from ever accepting one side of the religious argument over the other. And sadly, I don't think I will ever see an answer in my lifetime.

Um, of course a God could exist. He invented time.

@whitespirit26 - let's give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are joking.
As for the OP's point. No, of course he doesn't hold a grudge against God. For the simple reason that he is an intelligent and rational person and consequently does not believe God exists (or the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, or any other imaginary friends)

LOL, nice attempt at making a massive insult to most of the world's population sound intellectual.

I'd take Padre Pio over Stephen Hawking any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
