It will not disappoint. I just saw it and I loved it. But I will say that if you are looking for an upbeat, happy, "golden age" movie, be prepared. Because this movie doesn't lie about anything. It shows everything. It shows how crazy hughes really was. But the whole feel of the movie is pretty "golden age" I guess.

I wasn't disappointed. Like you, I'm an old movie buff. I was thrilled to see Cate Blanchett steal the show as Katherine Hepburn. Just the way the real Kate would have. I would have liked to see more on Ava Gardner and Spencer Tracy, but that would have taken us too far from the story.
You'll love the music and the atmosphere. It makes you feel like you're back in the 1930's. I think you'll agree with me that movies were a little better when they were black and white. Something about the actors are more real. Have we ever had anyone as compelling as Humphrey Bogart or dashing as Cary Crant. This movie really takes us back to those times.

Surprise Surprise. The movie about Howard Hughes is rated PG - 13. Martin Scorsase is a genius.

I have to say I really enjoyed the performances. Especailly Cate Blanchettshe definitely steals all the scenes she's in. But the story itself seemed a little all over the place at times.
I'm currently reading Hughes: The Privatda0e Diaries, Memos & Letters, and I can tell the Leo did his research, but the book is much more orderly than the movie.

The Aviator was one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. It drags on for SO long. The parts you see in the previews are the best parts of the movie and a crash scene which isn't in the preview.

"The Aviator" was fantastic. One of the best films I have seen in a long time. I love biopics and this was one of the best Ive' seen. Possibly the best since "This is Elvis" in 1981. I had heard of Hoawrd Hughes before this but not much. After watching this film I just wanted to learn all about the man.
I would love to see a follow up to where this film ends. I would like to see a film based on the decline of Howard Hughes. He seems to have been a tragic man. Like that Elvis biopic, a man who had everything, who lived "The American Dream" and ended up dieing from "the American Nightmare".

"The Aviator" received highly positive reviews with the review tallying website Rotten Tomatoes reporting that 186 out of the 213 reviews they tallied were positive for a score of 87% and certification of "Fresh". At review aggregator site Metacritic the film scored a 77 average out of 100, based on 41 reviews. Roger Ebert of Chicago Sun-Times gave the film four stars out of four and described the film and its subject, Howard Hughes, in these terms: "What a sad man. What brief glory. What an enthralling film, 166 minutes, and it races past. There's a match here between Scorsese and his subject, perhaps because the director's own life journey allows him to see Howard Hughes with insight, sympathy and, up to a point, with admiration. This is one of the year's best films."
