I have heard from family members of mine that there was a film made about Howard Hughes. Does anyone have any knowledge of this movie? The story in my family is that my Grandfather once pulled Hughes out of his airplane after seeing it crash. My Grandfather waited with him for paramedics to arrive then left. In this movie, that nobody seems to remember the name of, is a scene in which he is pulled out of a crashed plane by someone just named "Joe". My Grandfather only gave his first name.
I would really like to see this movie, but don't know what it is. If you have any ideas on how to find out what movie it is I would greatly appreciate it! -

The movie has to be older than that because my Grandfather was still alive when it came out. My Grandfather died in 1970. I have never seen the movie and nobody and my family, that has told me about it, can remember the name of it. I've done a search on IMDB and nothing seems to be a match. It might have been a movie that Hughes made that it happened in.

There was a movie-movie done about an ordinary guy who allegedly was left money by Hughes. It was called Harold and ? Mary Steenburgen won a supporting oscar for her role in it.However it came out in the early 80's
I know that Hughes did crash on someone's lawn in 1947? and survived only because there were people nearby to rescue him -

If the movie was made before 1970 - that means Hughes was still alive, meaning he would've had to grant permission re rights, etc. no? Meaning, the portrayal would be slightly 'disguised' without Hughes' name directly attached???
My guess would be the 1964 film THE CARPETBAGGERS.
George Peppard plays a character based on Hughes.
Whether or not there's a plane crash in that film, I don't know.

On ebay, they're selling a rare photo of the XF-11 crash site / wreckage - in Beverly Hills, CA.

Yes I believe it could have happened like Melvin said it did. Especially after reading the director of the film, in an interview, said he believed Melvin. Of course it's a wild story, but HH led a crazy life. If Melvin found him in the desert and saved his life HH might have been inclined to put him in the will. A book, High Stakes, by Robert Rhoden (Melvin's attorney), details the trial, etc. It makes a good case. Hope you check this board, after 5 years, Smush.

I also remember a movie made for TV, that was made about Hughs and i believe it was T.L. Jones playing Hughs. But i believe it came out in the 80's and i taped it off tv at the time.
I was on here because i was trying to find the title to it, so i could watch it again. It ended with him on the plane back to the states and he died on the flight back.
I just checked under T. L. Jones on here and your right. It was a movie from 1977. I must have taped it on a re-run.
Its called "The Amazing howard Hughs". -

I don't know if you know alreadybut "The Aviator (2004)" is ALL about Howard Hughes' life, and it's an outstanding movie. Check it out.
Remember the name, CHRIS HEWITT, because when I'm famous, you'll hear a LOT more of it
