What was distinctive about Howard Hughes was his appearance. He was tall and gaunt. He had piercing dark brown eyes! JI5b4M CARREY was the perfect choice for Hughes! Early test shots showed that. The problem was that DiCaprio bought the rights to the Hughes life story and cast himself.
He was TOTALLY unconvincing as Hughes.
Hughes personally hired by grandfather straight out of engineering school to work for him at Hughes Aircraft. Grandad was totally blown away by DiCaprio's lack of anything resembling Howard Hughes. -

I both agree a disagree with your thesis. I thought this was a very very fine performance for Leo but I've also seen some news reel footage of the real mr. hughes and he was taller and guanter. Still, the point isn't always to cast the one who loooks most like the person. I got the ensecnce of some of the facts of howard Hughes life and that is good enouph herrd,

I Agree. Appearance isn't the only reason a person is casted for a role. Leo brought a very good Howard to the screen. He was passionate about portraying him (Howard)correctly. He certainly did his homework and i think it really payed off. I really can't see Jim Carey in that role.

So performers have to be the height of the real characters they are playing???? Following that fractured line of thought, then the 6'2" Peter O'Toole never should have been allowed to portray the 5'4" T.E. Lawrence. But at least Jimmy Stewart was the right height for Lindbergh, regardless of the age difference.

really, birdbrain? gee, the same size as Wayne then! oh, and Peter is 6'2":
Birth Name
Peter Seamus O'Toole
Height
6' 2" (1.88 m)
you always like to shave a few inches off their height. Makes you feel taller in comparison.

You met Peter and Harris, birdpoop? Did they leave you a big tip when you waited on their table? You know, since they were seated, their height could not be accurately gauged by you. O'Toole is 6'2" mentioned everywhere and acknowledged by all bu2000t you. Since you are only 5'5", everyone looks taller.

via email to whom, birdpoop you???? Gee, you sure know a lot of famous celebrities. OK, better inform a carload of folks about shortie O'Toole's true height. He keeps getting smaller with each post. He will soon be down to Alan Ladd size at this rate.

davey's got a point. Actors should be the same height as the characters they play. That's why Peter O'Toole was all wrong for the role of Lawrence, being nearly a foot taller than the desert adventurer. Forget about talent height is all that counts for davey. By the way, how can a midget be closeted?
