Well, money is a big attraction for some women, but honestly, some of the pictures and footage of him from early in his aviation career the man was so incredibly handsome. I dare to say, one of the best looking men to ever live. I love to hear him talk, too in the footage of him after his round the world flight and also during the senate hearings. Although his accident nearly killed him and mangled his face, etc., he was also a quite handsome middle-aged man as well- I don't normally like mustaches on men, but it definitely worked for him. He was just one of those guys who women adored, and for good reason, he was handsome, suave, and rich. Its not just about money, or else Bill Gates would have groupies hanging all over him.

I don't think it was about money for the women he went out with but he was incredibly handsome as you say . Many of the reputable accounts say that he could be charming when he wanted to be and he really knew how to show them a good time .
One of his overlooked characteristics is that he was persistent which would be annoying I guess but meant he usually got the lady . Katharine Hepburn in her book talks about how she snubbed him when they first met . She was living with somebody else at the time and was furious that he turned up in his aeroplane on a film set to meet her . Howard kept in touch and eventually they started going out with each other and eventually she moved into his house.
Most men would have been intimidated by the initial brush off- Howard was a master strategist when it came to women and some accounts say that he was pretty smart when it came to women even if he did sometimes think that his money would solve any potential problems . In one of the biographies it mentions a conversation with one of his lovers - they were talking about past partners and somehow they got onto the question of women and the big o . I guess most men in the 1940's wouldn't have been aware of that particular issue so he must have been doing some heavy reading .
But basically he was incredibly handsome. -

Of all things women find attractive, intelligence is at the top of the list. Hughes had intelligence. The looks, money, popularity were all just icing on the cake. If you can't hold someone's intellectual interest, then you will bore them - this applies to males or females.

I graduated from an aeronautical school and HH was reverred for his aviation genius. No matter where I've worked his name comes up, at one time he was the finest aviator in the world. He test flew his own airplanes. Any aircraft he designed he flew it himself. After designing the constellation he rounded up his hollywood friends and flew them to New York. Flush rivets is the one thing I hear the most.to reduce drag and increase speed.

Hughes went out with a lot of women and he wasn't neccessarily interested in their intelligence more their physical attributes .
But one of his great loves was Katharine Hepburn - she didn't look like any his other girlfriends or lovers and yet both Katharine and Howard were both very intelligent and apparently got on very well . She was one of the great loves of his life and one of the few people where the relationship didn't end badly ie they still remained friends
I agree with you that the women wer2000e not going out with Howard because of his money . -

"I agree with you that the women were not going out with Howard because of his money."
So, if his dad had never invented that drill bit, and Howard hadn't had all that money to start out with and had instead been born into poverty in Humble, Texas and had had to get a job somewhere5b4 and then try and survive through the Great Depression without an inherited fortune do you think Jean Harlow, Kate Hepburn, Ava Gardner, etc. would've been so interested in him?
I think you have to factor the money in somehow at least somewhat. -

I agree, the money would have had some bearing. that and the fact he was a big user of "the casting couch". He employed people at one stage to "talent spot" likely women he could enjoy- usually busty teenagers- he'd set them up in a house where he would groom them promising to make them a star if they came up with the goods. fair play, if I had that sort of cash I'd probably be the same.
Look at someone like hugh hefner. yeah, in real life beautiful young women always go for 80 year old men, dont they? or in the UK someone like Chris evans or mick hucknall who really arent attractive, but are very wealthy and always have an attractive woman on their arm. chris evans has even acknowledged this- a newspaper headline said "what is 80million deal Chris's attraction?" he read this out on air and said "I think they've answered their own question!"
Of course, the fact that Hughes was a handsome guy would have helped too -

He was tall, dark and handsome. His money and fame gave him power that made the tall, dark and handsome man even more attractive. Did you all know there is a shopping area in Los Angeles named after him? Crazy.

I suppose Hughes being an innovator in both aviation and film had something to do with women being attracted to him. Remember he made the first multimillion dollar movie. He had the drive, ambition and ability to go where no one had gone before. Also, his fame was most likely attractive to some women as well. The person most similar to Hughes today, that I can think of, is Richard Branson.
