The judges on Dancing with the stars ARE famous in the dance world. Check out their bio's on the DWTS website. The judges of American Idol are only famous because music is more popular with the average person than ballroom dancing.

the idol judges are famous (paula and simon that is, randy really isnt too famous) because they have IT. carrie ann doesnt really have IT. thats just the truth. i am sure paula and simon would be famous no matter what they were doing honestly, even if american idol was a little cable show with few viewers, they would still be famous. i mean just compare their videos on youtube.. several thousand videos for simon cowell and paula abdul, only 58 for carrie ann.. same with judges from several other shows, they just never become as famous as them even if their shows do well in the ratings (DWTS is the nr 1 show during the fall)

Actually she lived in Japan for a while and late 80s was a popstar. She's a famous coreographer (sp?) amongs pop stars. She's choreographed with madonna and a ton of other big names. Honestly I think maybe she just prefers being private and not as famous. Just my humble.

I watch DWTS because it is a 'small' show that seems pretty honest and doesn't try to be over the top. And Carrie Ann is the most honest and level-headed of all.
AI is ALL hype. The judges are ridiculous, the judging very specious (wow, I used it right - 'Having the ring of truth or plausibility but actually fallacious'), the repulsive ringers they have in the beginning, the better singers who get voted out before the lesser talent The whole show is a fraud.
They aren't mean on DWTS, the performers are people from other fields who genuinely seem to be in it for the fun - and do an amazing job for little reward.
In my world, none of these judges are stars. But the AI judges aren't welcome in the neighborhood.
I almost fell over when I read that CA was Fook Yu! So unlike her DWTS persona. (guess that’s why the call it ‘acting’) -

Maybe you never knew, or it happened before you watched AI, but there were actually organized (over 'social media') campaigns to vote for the worst performers. That naturally forced some of the better talents off the show before their time, particularly during the first year that was done.
Once the "vote for the worst" campaigns became public, their effect on the voting was significantly less -

Simple the US is still stuck up on ethnic prejudice, stereotypes and hate. I say that as a outsider being German native now a dual citizenship yank. My hubby is a 3rd gen Japanese American so I speak Japanese as well and know the culture very well. And I can say most Japanese or Japanese Americans do not like us Caucasians or the US and the UK. So there is mutual hatred among both parties (not saying all now but most) Its why Asians marrying or dating outside their culture is less than 1% and the largest Japanese group outside Japan is Brazil with Hawaii being a Asian Majority state one of the few in the US that are not Caucasian majority.
Pardon the long rant but I only see this in the US back in the EU etc we for the most part have moved on but the US always always has outdated terms like color and race on the mind. Oh and those shows like American idol or talent BS etc? All judges are has been themselves. And lastly most Asians especially Japanese, Koreans and Chinese do NOT go into such a lame unstable businesses as showbiz. To them it is not a real career or job. Same goes for us in Germany or most in the western EU tho I do not count the UK like the US they are so full of themselves.
So its no secret why there so little Asian actors in the US most don't do it and those that do have to go thru the racist BS. Example James Hong over 300 credits to his name but he gets almost NO recognition. He doesn't even have a star on the walk. But talent less dorks like Seacrest has one. Nuff said. Mein Gott..

Interesting insights, and maybe a little too strong.
And "it" is not limited to the USA. My mother-in-law was born in France and married an American GI. If you think the French are 'mean' to tourists, you should hear how they treat each other.
I worked for a large electronics company in Texas (USA), and one grob68up of customers was excited to see one of our group was wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat (and wanted to meet a "real Texan"!). They were right, since he and his parents were born and raised in Texas, and all his grandparents lived in Texas as well. They were VERY surprised when he turned around and removed his hat. He was third generation Japanese American.
Stereotypes
There are reasons Texas is different than much of the other United States.
Another example is the Admiral Nimitz museum in Texas is located in a town I visited, and heard German being spoken on the streets
just sayin'
As for Carrie Ann Inaba, I have not tried to look her up in videos, or much of anything else besides the IMDB, (yet), and I was a little surprised she has a listing here. Dancers seem to go generally uncredited
