I agree,Northern women are often very SEXY and mysteriose. Also Canadian Actresses are usualy not all Hollywood looking and very real which is much more interesting.Katharine is actualy a great actress also which makes her more than just Eyecandy.Although she is Eyecandy for sure.

I'll never understand this stereotype. I'm a Canadian girl and I say "about" not "aboot". Canadians get such weird stereotypes that are normally false for most of Canada! 😛 There may be some that follow such stereotypes, but not everyone. I've been seeing more of it recently("How I Met Your Mother" tv show for example)and it's starting to drive me nuts. Haha
Ps. Canadian girls do kick ass. 😉

Stereotype? Like all dialects, they vary by region. Have seen the size of your country? There's a lot of regions there. I happen to have a Midwest US accent. I pronounce "on" similar to "awn." "Fork" tends to be "fark," though people in my city have been fighting to stop it, and it's the sign of a bumpkin (or as we say, a "hoosier,") if you pronounce it that way.
Here's what I've noticed about the Canadian accent from youtube and other sources. The tendency pronounce "boat" as "boot" and similar phonemes appears strong in Manitoba, very weak in Toronto and perhaps Ontario. In Vancouver, it's not the "stereotype" you describe, but "can" is pronounced "cahn" as opposed to my dialect where it's pronounced similar to "ca-yen." "That" in my region sometimes sounds like "dat."
I personally know a woman from New Brunswick who has a very pronounced accent, of the "stereotype" you talk about. It seems the accent you think of as a stereotype is actually widespread in your country, which doesn't mean everybody has it.
I noticed in the movie Ginger Snaps, in the scene where Trina's frozen fingers get chipped off, Katharine Isabelle says her line, "Way to gaoo." She says "go" in a way that I can't pronounce, and evidently, the accent is part the humor, and since I didn't notice it in Ginger's character before, apparently Ginger was affecting it.
Almost nobody thinks that they speak with an accent or dialect, but everybody does, no exceptions. If you don't go the stereotype, you definitely follow the dialect of your region of Canada. If you said "boat" "boot," however, I don't know why you should be ashamed. Hell, Canadians spell some words differently, too. I bet you follow that "stereotype." And you'd be using single quotes where I've been using double quotes.

I am a Manitoban born and raised and I don't think I've ever heard anyone pronounce boat as boot. I also never hear anyone say aboot instead of about. Also no one I know says ay. Sometimes I will say something like "that was a really good movie hey" which may be where that stereotype comes from. Some people in other parts of Canada might say ay but I think it's stupid to think that all Canadians talk the same. I don't think everybody in the states talk with a Texas, New Jersey, Brooklyn, or Minnisota accent. I also don't assume that everyone who live in those places speak with those accents so I don't know why most people think all Canadians speak the same. I personally love HIMYM, and find the Canadian jokes funny because they are done on purpose as 16d0the actress who plays Robin is Canadian. When they do make a Canadian joke to Robin she fires back with pretty good jokes about the states. Just so you know my rant isn't directed at anyone on this thread it's just my opinion, I am not offended by anything anyone has said and appreciate the comment about how Canadians shouldn't be ashamed by an accent, I don't think anyone should be, we should all be proud of where we come from.

I think Canadians have a lot to be proud of, especially with film. There's nobody who doesn't have an accent, but there are those who have accents you don't notice, because they talk like you.

Doesn't matter what I think? It doesn't matter what you say, MR. ALL CAP TROLL!
A thirty second Google search proved you dead wrong:
                            http://www.academia.edu/2277838/If_Your_From_Ohio_You_Have_An_Accent
Claiming you don't have an accent is like claiming you don't have an eye color, even when you argue brown isn't really a color. Accents and dialects are a natural part of language. Even bird songs have regional accents.

You think you've got it bad with Canadian stereotypes? I'm an Aussie, comic book reading, goth(I'm hard to picture just because I said I'm Australian). I have no stereotyped Aussie accent and the only people I do know with a thick accent is my grandfather(I'm not saying he's the only person in the whole of Australia to say "g'day mate. How yer goin'"). The stereotyped canadian accent is actually nice sounding.
As far as HIMYM goes that show is obviously being racist(I've heard the character Barney insult Canada, France & Sweden, the5b4 last two in the same episode). I am a small fan of that show but the racism always gets to me, Those jokes aren't even funny in my eyes.
As I said if you think you've got it bad try being an Australian, comic book reading, goth.
                              Goth for LIFE!
