How do you feel about this1c84? Maybe I'm just small minded, but it seems kind of weird.

I'm familiar with that formula and it has occurred to me when thinking about date-able women. It's kind of a guideline as to whether you should broach the subject or let it go.
I once expressed to a woman she was within the formula, and I think she was a bit unnerved, but she got over it, eventually. I'm so nice and respectful, most women realize I mean no harm, and don't mind a little attention.
I'm not a woman much less Deanna Durbin, but the old-time glam-shot appeals to me. -

I think we have known that forwell, it has been a known fact foryears now so I never really thought about it. She met him when he was nobody and she was famous, no fans today knew who he was back then. There is nothing weird about it. It is still a bit sad when it is considered normal when a guy marries 20 years younger woman but it is considered weird vice versa.

People keep saying that but is it really considered
normal
when a guy marries a woman 20 years younger. I don't consider that normal. I don't think most people I know would either. They'd all be "she's too young for him. It won't last. They have nothing in common." That said, you're right, the reverse is considered more strange. I think because we can understand why a younger woman would marry an older man more than we can understand why a younger man would want to marry an older woman. -

I think one of the reasons is that it is often seen through mans eyes (why would he choose an older woman?). As a woman, I can understand why, a successful, older but beautiful woman would choose a younger man for some reasons (while young woman with an older man is suspected for just wanting his money, older woman simply wants a man who canwell, last longer
). But I think love really is blind so I think it is more common now due to modern ways of communication. In the past, you just went out to meet friends of your age while now, when you create a community at the internet, the moment you meet outside the internet, there are people of different ages. Sci-fi conventions are a good example of this (in my case)
However, it was not a case of Hugh and Deb. They simply fell in love during filming

There could be many reasons why a man would want to marry a woman much older than him it could be money reasons looking for experience and looking for a mother figure i personally don't think it's a big deal unless the woman is more than 30 years older and 40 years older.

Funny aside I know a woman who is probably in her early 70s and I'm in my late 50s. We get along great, but we don't date or anything like that. But there's something about her I find attractive. She's petite, wears a tight little pony-tail, has pale blue eyes, is very talkative with a sense of humor. I'm not bowled over by her, but I'm sometimes surprised how much I enjoy spending time with her. And she always seems so happy to see me, but I think she treats everyone like that. Nice lady.

It's normal for a man to marry a younger female because the human species is a sex for resources species. The women trade their fecundity for the man's resources. Men gain resources as they get older, while women lose fecundity as they get older. secondly, men can reproduce well into old age while women go barren around their late 30's. The "modern standards" are actually the exception to the rule, and are based on hypergamy and slave morality.

none of what you say is standard practice in modern, civilized western societies anymore. You're talking about societies that are still living in the middle ages. Hence why there's still child brides in Arabic Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, in fact all the 'stans and throughout much of African countries. BTW your science seems well stuck in the dark ages as well. First of all women don't lose their ability to procreate until
after
menopause. On average, menopause occurs around age
50
, not in your 30s! Women all over the world, especially in countries with lack of access to reliable birth control, have children well into their 40s. Modern science has shown us that women having children at either extreme of their fertile years (young preteen/teens & 40s+) give birth to babies with more problems, like Down's syndrome, not just older ladies. Modern science has also proven that old sperm in also the culprit of poorer quality offspring. Men may be able to contribute viable sperm, but the quality drops off significantly after their late 30s. Of course, all this only speaks to your notion that romantic relationships
are only about procreating
. In western society, romantic relationships are about love and companionship - - women have their own careers and are self-sufficient. Marriages are not exclusively about financial security and fecundity. Buy a clue. Jackman lives in the modern world, not in Afghanistan. -

Biology > culture. Biology wins and will always win. Even in this "modern" times, women prefer to date men that have more resources than themselves, are taller than themselves etc. Try to convince women that the men they date nowadays dont need to be taller than themselves anymore like in the "olden" dark ages. Good luck convincing men not to be attracted to breasts since they are primitive secondary sexual characteristics that denote fecundity. I mean, nowadays, they can just ask a woman about her fecundity status and so protruding breasts are outdated. Also, women are not independent. They have simply replaced the man with the state. The state provides them with the resources and protection that she used to get from the man. Also, all the hypergamy and slave morality will not stop men from seeing a man dating a woman that is 20 years older than himself as normal, hence this thread. "Its the modern times" is not an argument as to why that should be seen as normal given that its existence is based on slave morality and hypergamy, while the opposition to the practice is based on millions of years of evolution.

Wow! Your women go barren in their late 30s? Yikes! Ours reach menopause in their mid-late 50s. We must seem like Vulcans to you guys, lol. What's your ethnicity btw? Just curious about your short lifespan. I read that pygmies have short lifespans, are you a pygmy?

Thanks, do your men go sterile early? I guess the point stands for you guys but not with ours. Are you a pygmy?
I've never met a pygmy before, how long is your lifespan? Do you find it weird that we have longer lifespan than you guys? -

I do think it's kinda of strange. It, however, is not just the number, it's question of maturity. An older woman is expected to conduct herself in a particular manner as she gets older, and men, as we all know, do not mature as quickly as quickly as women. You also never stop maturing as you get older, I'd like to observe. So here's, an instance where I do find it weird. The man I'm currently married to dated a woman who was 20 years older than himself (before we met, of course). He was in the navy and in his mid to late 20's. What was he doing? Boozing it up and partying, and she did it with him. She also has a son that's his age. Yes age is just a number, but I find her conduct, a woman in her 40's at the time, inappropriate.

I think it is a bit close minded to judge someone else's relationship by your own experiences or society's standards. You mention that men are not as mature as women. That is not always the case and to say that is giving in to stereotypes. My fiance, for one, is extremely mature, does not party or drink, and has his finances and everything completely in order. He is two years younger than me. And since this topic is about Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, I will also use Hugh as an example. Yes, Deb is almost 13 years older than Hugh, but have you read about Hugh Jackman's reputation, even before he was a Hollywood star? This is a man who worked many odd jobs to support himself, has always been responsible, and chose to attend drama school for 3 years rather than starring in Neighbors and getting instant fame (he was offered instant money and fame in Australia to star in Neighbors and instead, chose to further his education). I think it was Hugh's brother who said that initially he felt it would be a stretch for Hugh to play a rebel like Wolverine because in real life, Hugh had never even gotten a speeding ticket. Hugh is known to be very spiritually grounded and was that way when he and Deb met, even according to people who went to drama school with him. They say he never even missed a class during drama school, was always punctual, never got into trouble, and was a complete gentleman. There is a reason he is never in the tabloids. He also does not party much despite being a Hollywood actor now. This man was very mature when Deb met him, and she says he is actually more responsible than she is. Based on interviews I've seen with Deb, I highly doubt she would have married Hugh if she felt he was less mature than she is.

What does age matter when two people find his/her soulmate in each other?
I do remember seeing a photo of the two of them on an Australian beach watching the sunset together, with Deb wrapped in Hugh's arms. Their backs practically faced the camera and they obviously did not see the photographer who took advantage of the opportunity to get a photo of the couple. It seemed such a romantic and loving image!
I have also seen an interview that both of them conducted together to honor Barbara Walter's retirement they were practically finishing each other sentences, so ingrained was their relationship with each other. And when Barbara requested Hugh to sing "I'VE GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO HER FACE" ( her favorite song), Hugh did it as if she was really his true love interest but not before he asked leave from Deb - such a lovely gesture!
They will be married 20 years this year and Hugh, when asked in an interview if he has already thought of what to do, shared that he has already been thinking about it but that it is going to be a surprise for Deb!
Btw, if you believe in zodiac signs there is an interesting analysis on how a female Sagittarian can be very compatible with a male Libran
