I think you may be right. Not only were her features very beautiful, she also had a powerful aura about her - a rare mixture of intelligence and ethereal (if subdued) radiance. And it seems it was something that she did not have to work on or "turn on" (as Norma Jean, in her own words, had to).
But Carolyn Jones did not - either by choice or by chance - gamble on becoming a caricaturesque "doll". She was a true actress (just see her dead-pan dog walker character in "The Tender Trap"); I would like to think that - being an actress, a versatile artist - was more important to her than being a "star" (i.e. typecast, at least in those days).
Be it as it may, Carolyn Jones is certainly on my "list" of most beautiful (and underrated) film actresses ever. -

I don't know why you don't notice women in comedic roles but just like Elizabeth Montgomery, Carolyn Jones is really sexy. Too bad she was relegated to a black and white TV show that got little attention after it's initial run.
