He is one of our finest character actors, but which is your favourite role? My choices are Dai in Children of the stones, Bytes in Elephant Man and McAlister in Randall and Hopkirk (deceased) - the original series. He is a national treasure.

      Inspector Dylan in
      The Bliss of Mrs. Blossom
      ; Headmaster Warner in
      Pennies from Heaven
; and the enemy agent who swaps minds with John Steed in the classic
      Avengers
episode "Who's Who?" spring immediately to mind. And I'd be commiting a grievous oversight if I failed to mention Freddie's wonderful Orlando in Fellini's
      And the Ship Sailed On
      .
I would give a necessary limb to be able to see his performance as Claudius in the 1960's BBC miniseries
      The Caesars
, and I hope someday this will be released to video as it deserves to be.

I'm currently watching the Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett as Sherlock, and noticed this brilliant actor in the episode "Wisteria Lodge". Fantastic and hilarious performance.
Great to see that he's still active at close to 90 years old! Very admirable.
