I am most surprised to find a major ommission in Freddie's list. I loved his Mr Raven (and his Boot) in Leon Garfield's "The Strange Affair of Adelaide Harris". He first came to my notice in the role and I've adored him ever since.
(The 1980s series isn't mentioned in Leon Garfield's list either.)

I loved it too as a child. I've got the tie-in paperback. Wish the series were available to watch again. It's such a great grotesque character.
