So let me get this straight: Your friend somehow forced you to watch The Future, which you hated, and now you want to punch this friend in the face? You need to see a psychiatrist.
Or maybe you meant you want to punch a filmmaker in the face for creating a film which you hated. A film which you also sat through because your friend 'made you' watch it.
In either case, you are a sheep which allows its friends to dictate its life, and then becomes violently angry when this weakness leads to disappointment.
How pathetic. I'm sorry you have to live like that.
A word of advice: C2000ontemplate your interests more carefully and make your own choices about which films to watch in the future. Or choose your friends more carefully. If you had a better grasp of what you like and dislike, and were strong enough not to be manipulated by your friend, you wouldn't have wasted your time watching a film you would not like.
Good luck! -

It's nice to see IMDB still is full of people who's only purpose is to scoff and turn their noses up to those they deem unintelligent or unworthy.
You're calling someone pathetic and you're the one grilling them over not liking the movie and not being rude enough to leave a friend to watch it by themselves? You really think they are serious about punching their friend or perhaps the filmmaker? If that's the case I've got a watch to sell you.
It's not being a sheep to be polite. I've sat through many films I didn't really enjoy because I was with a group of people or perhaps on a date and I knew everyone else was into the filmso bite the tongue and enjoy what you can. But what you're saying is I and the OP should have walked out. Said how bad the movie was (as mean that might be to someone who is really liking it) and just leave. In fact because of that instance that we could no longer be friends for one to have suggested watching such a film.
How do you grow? How does anyone suggest something to you? You must be that special kind of person who knows what to say, when to say it, and exactly how to say it every time without fail.
A word of advice to you. if someone doesn't like the movie and doesn't offer a laundry list of reasons let it go. Not really something worth mocking others over, is it? -

I love how people on
IMDB
get worked up into a frenzy when anything negative is said about someone or something. Since when does everything have to be platitude driven suns1908hine and roses?
I don't care for Ms. July either. It might be an easy potshot, but I too feel everything about her, name included, is pretentious.
The only thing
Me You And Everyone We Know
had going for it was some interesting cinematography. And
The Future
was an eye-roll worthy mess. Did it make me want to punch anyone in the face? Not particularly. But it does go to show you how people overreact to sarcasm on public bulletin boards. -

She irks me too. I think she's a decent writer, but her filmmaking is don't crucify me pretentious. Except not in an experimental or particularly original way. She's got a quirky style that seems to be quirky for the sake of being quirky, which is terribly annoying. I reminds me of an arthouse sort of "Juno" thing.
I liked "Thumbsucker", which her husband directed, but "You and Me" and "The Future" were just meh. Off-putting to say the least. She has a huge following here in Portland, but I just don't like her work. She's an artist, and obviously not everyone is going to like her work, and I fall into the category of those who don't. I don't have anything against people who like her, but I do question some people who "like her" but can't really explain why; I know several people who "like her" for the sake of the perceived trendiness of liking her. -

Couldn't agree more, she is an original and distinctive film maker in a world full of unoriginal films being churned out completely for financial game. I can understand that her style might not be for everyone but it really is exhausting to see how many people resort to expressions like "she is the worst" or "I want to punch her in the face", just because it's not something they enjoyed or admired.
I Sympathise with Lars Von Trier.
