that's so strange. i know many virgins (myself included) who choose to be so as a moral decision to wait until marraige.

Sucks to be you. Me I had an absolute blast having sex and I didnt make anyone pregnant and I didnt get any std:s and no one got hurt. And not having sex has nothing to do with morals. It's like saying that I dont intend to go to the bathroom because of a moral decision.

im not sticking up for it. but scenes like that is what makes an indie film separate from the mainstream. their is always a wierd sexual shade of gray in indie films.

Wow, they were so not skanks. They were teenage virgins that were curious and scared about their developing sexuality. And they relied on each other and making the experience clinical to make themselves feel safe. And it was weirdly beautiful

I found the whole film incredibly beautiful. It is amazing that we all experience elements of the film differently. Maybe our own experiences dictate the ways in which we accept certain aspects and reject others. The conversation about poop, the BJ's all of it resonated and felt honest and pure. There were no judgements from the film, no manipulations, just people doing what they do. It is interesting to watch the interview extras on the DVD also to gine extra insight into the process and how Miranda worked with the actors.

Exactly. They are just teenage girls curious about sex. It's so sexist that boys are allowed to be frisky but girls who are, are called whores or skanks. I think it's because men are afraid of female sexuality. They want to have sex but at the same time they want every woman to be a virgin. Talk about skanky.

Gah. Ya think? But it isn't just men. Women have been programmed to be afraid of their own sexuality. I don't mean afraid of their own sexiness, I mean afraid of their sexuality. The OP probably watches Girls Gone Wild.

It is films like this that make it seem "harmless" and "okay" for molesters, abusers, and neer-do-wells to continue in their perversions. Those children were severely exploited for "art" and their parents should be arrested for allowing them to participate in such a disgusting display of legal child porn. Anyone who has ever been abused or molested would be disgusted.
These young actors will be severely messed up for participating in this tripe. Morally reprehensible.

Yeah, so I guess every film that has a murder in it is to blame for actual murders. And I bet you read interviews with Miranda July too, to understand what she was actually trying to do right? But that would have been the
                      logical
                      and
                      sensible
thing to do, so I doubt it.
I agree with her, a child's sexuality, the thoughts and feelings they have, should be allowed to be explored without it being considered pedophiliac and dirty. All she's doing is saying that the existence of these feelings should be acknowledged, not that children should be abused because they exist, that children are less child-like because of them.

Legal child porn? Wow, how do I begin to go about deconstructing that statement? Okay, I'll make it simple: A. they're not children, they're teenagers. Teenagers have sex. Pretty much all of them. B. it's called acting it's obvious the boy isn't really unclothed and the girls aren't remotely doing what it appears they're doing. It's all very tastefully done. C. the only one "messed up" here is you and your bizarre moral stance.

and yet you call yourself "freemind1998."
                          .
What if these young actors grow up to be normal, loving, healthy people?
                          Will you feel let down?

My own mother held me down as a child and tried to anally violate me.

thats too bad about your response to the scene.
this film is about finding a relationship in the wrong place, and that's worded horribly. its like a comment on how desperation in common relationships, and how fishy it can get, and find love where its not supposed to be. between an artist and a brown suited shoesalesman, or two elderly people too late in life, obviously with robbie and nancy herrington. i thought the film was remarkable.

the point to the movie was all of the cast were lonely and the loneliness was portrayed through several aspects of an array of people. sure, it was a little detailed, but it's still a common thing in society and it definitely fit with the idea of the movie.

what is it with everybody comparing every indie film with garden state. it was a good movie, but it wasn't that spectacular. most of the movies people compare it to are way better than garden state.

No kidding. I watched Garden State and was like "cool", then I popped in "Code 46&quo2000t; right after Garden State and was 10X more impressed with Code 46. Probably within the first five minutes of the film. So maybe even indie-film fans need to expand their horizons a bit.
