I think the morning flush of the commode is a lot like the credits at the end of any July movie.

PUNCH DRUNK LOVE is quite possibly the closest film thematically and visually akin to M&Y&EWK.
I also recomend Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic, The Darjeeling Limited.
for some older stuff that has a simmilar vibe i'd recomend Shampoo. both have simmilar dialogue.
