Your Dream Director For A Kaufman Script?

Time for a fun "what if" scenario. If you could choose any director, living or dead, to direct a Kaufman film, who would it be? Don't get me wrong, I think Spike Jones did an excellent job with his films, and I'm sure Kaufman himself will do a great job as well. But if you could pick any director to match up with Kaufman's unique writings, who would you choose?
My own personal choice would be Andrei Tarkovsky. His films were very much about memory, perception and the human mind (Solaris, Stalker, The Mirror). I think his visuals are absolutely stunning and, although his films were extremely personal, I would love to see what he could do with one of Kaufman's scripts. Of course he died in 1986, so we won't be seeing this pairing any time soon. But it's still nice to imagine.
Anyway, who would you pick? No wrong answers, just an open debate. Also, please keep your posts spoiler free."Feel pain; eat pudding"

I think Gondry and Jonze have both done g238reat jobs. They let Charlie help out and I think the movies are better because of it. I'd like to see Fincher or Lynch do one of his films though.

Ahh yes, I was going to say David Lynch hands down- and what I was absolutely astounded by in Synecdoche was how much of a Lynchian essence Kauffman's direction had! Those two minds TOGETHER? Wow, that would just be pinnacle!

Ehh I'd be apprehensive about a Kaufman/Lynch collaborationalthough there may be some "Lynchian" weirdness in Synecdoche, it doesn't exactly have the unsettling psychological tension of Lynch's movies. Sure, there's doubt and self-consciousness and self-deprecation and anxiety, but it's never exactly disturbingsomething that's present in almost all of Lynch's movies. (Granted, I've never seen The Elephant Man nor The Straight Story.)

I think he would do really well with Fincher after watching A Scanner Darkly last night, but I would also like to see it with Terr1c84y Gilliam, I know it's a little abstract, but the both have really original ideas, and if they don't tear each other apart, I think something really amazing could come out of it, but I doubt It'll ever happen

Yeah, I know, sorry, I hate two trains of thought that I accidently merged into one, I would like to see Kaufman with both Fincher and Linklater, either one would be amazing

Darron Aronofsky and Kaufman could definitely make a really cool movie. I would love to see those two work together with a really good visual effects team. Then throw in some awesome actors like Viggo Mortensen and Tilda Swinton and you have a very cool movie.
That's just me dreaming though..

I agree with Darren Aronofsky and Tilda Swinton, but Viggo Mortensen does not fit with Kaufman. Perhaps Brad Pitt or Elijah Wood would be better choices.

haha yeah. I think that he would be interesting, but like you said, everyone suggests him for everything. I don't know if Kaufman would do it for originality purposes.
