Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jim Kelly

    Tresix — 12 years ago(July 01, 2013 06:24 PM)

    1. Kung Fu Joe-played by the late Steven James in the blaxploitation spoof
      I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
. KFJ, like Kelly's Mr. Keyes in
      Three the Hard Way
fights and does well hand-to-hand against multiple foesuntil they surround him with guns.
    2. Jack Stone-voice of Phil Lamarr on "The Proud Family". Stone is a martial arts actor who is idolized by Penny Proud and her friends. Penny wants to take lessons from him, but her parents send her to a better school while her friends go to Stone's school. Apparently, the kids had been looking at old movies of Stone as he is a good deal heavier than he's shown in the movie when the kids are in his school.
    3. Bushido Brown-voice of Cedric Yarborough and Michael Jai White on "The Boondocks". Brown first appeared in the episode "Let's Nab Oprah" where he is Oprah Winfrey's personal bodyguard and gets into a fight against Huey. He is shown briefly in the episode "Attack of the Killer Kung-Fu Wolf Bitch" in a scene that parodies Kelly's
      Enter the Dragon
. His final appearance was in "Stinkmeaner 3: The Hateocracy" where he's now the bodyguard of the Freeman family to protect them from three elderly martial arts experts. Brown ends up getting decapitated by the flying guillotine,
    4. Black Dynamite-played by Michael Jai White in
      Black Dynamite
, another blaxploitation satire. Also spun off into an animated series in which White does Dynamite's voice.

Forgot one: a character that Tommy Davidson played on "In Living Color". I can't remember the character's name, but he had a really big, receding Afro and he wore bellbottom pants with platform shoes. He had two women with him and they would always enter with this funky music playing and yell "Chop, chop!" to the beat of it.

That Tommy Davidson one sounds hilarious, never saw that. As you might be able to tell from my sig, I was a huge fan of his.

That was certainly hysterical, but I personally didn't see it as quite being Jim Kelly, just kind of general homage, he even mentioned Jim by name, haha! But still very funny!
Black5b4 Dynamite or Bushido Brown actually have more of his appearance and style.
