I have to admit that the guests lately for Simon and Mark have been a little underwhelming.
Big names, not exactly great for radio though.
Oldman - quite subdued
Broadbent - ponderous
Hurt - alright but often pausing to find words
Fassbender - very restrained
Fiennes - Liam Neeson mach 2 (monosyllabic)
Bradley Cooper - lively but bland
Crowe - well he's an absolute windbag a__ehole anyway.
Obviously some of these folks are getting on a bit, but it seems half the podcast is listening to these guys trying to choose words and complete sentences. Boring! They're basically doing plugs and putting us to sleep. It should be funny anecdotes and them talking about their careers and hits.
Tom Hanks was the only good one lately.

LOL, indeed. I kinda wish Mark did the interviews cos he's the one who asks the film buff questions while Simon tends to.. well, tell them how wonderful they are. Not to say Simon doesn't pull out the odd insightful question, but he really does help them plug their films, it's Mark who'd rather talk about all the cool films from their back catalogues (that we want to hear about).

Oldman was indeed somewhat subdued but I found it to be a captivating interview.
I'd much rather listen to 30 minutes of John Hurt pausing to find the right words than five minutes of listeners' tedious emails about cinema experiences, thoughts on recent releases, boasting about their qualifactions or begging for a shout out because they're taking part in some stupid run or other.
