While i'm completely and obviouly PRO feminism, it kind of reeks of opportunism and bandwagoning. where was all this feminism 5 years ago?

Madonna has always been a feminist.

People were complacent because they didn't know how good they had it. When you take a way fundamental rights people tend to wake up.

I think in the last 5 years there's been a large wave of people realizing that feminism is quite simply the belief that men and women are equal and deserve to be treated as such, and that it doesn't have to be some radical, bra-burning thing. Beyonc and others helped.
A few years ago the f-word was something that no one wanted to be labeled. Even Gaga, in 2009, denied that she was a feminist because she thought it meant "hating men".
Ice cold. I roll my eyes at you.

They've been there you just haven't seen it. Miley, Gaga, Ariana, and Katy have been preaching about women's roles in the industry for years.

Beyonce has too. Longer than any of the others have. She basically started while still being in Destiny's Child.

Not true. Feminsm has ALWAYS been this talked about. Its been this way since the 60s! There has been no increase or surge of interest feminsm in pop culture!
