It's a pop song with elements of rock music.

Exactly. No true rock musician would consider that a rock song, and there have been far superior rock performances this year.
The Grammys just love to kiss Beyonce's ass for whatever reason. This is further proof of that.

How the hell is the song not rock?! Please elaborate. Th only reason why you say it's not is because its Beyonce singing it Its a rock song both with the production and with her vocal delivery.
Also the ROCK committee are the one who nominated the song. Its not like all the urban producers banded together to nominate t7eche song. I would think they know more about rock than you do

Yeah. Jack White gave her some credibility/rock cred, but it's not a rock song. Like it's an incredible song, the best on the album. It's just a pop song with elements of rock and soul music. I don't know why people always think Britney Spears is the only kind of pop.

Beyonce sings pop songs. XO is pop. Pretty Hurts is pop. Pray You Catch Me is pop. Care to elaborate on what is pop about DHY ? It was written by a rock icon, produced by rock producers and engineers and samples a Led Zepplin song. The production is rock and Beyonce vocal approach is vastly differrent from her pop songs. I have a feeling we wouldn't be having this conversation if it were a tr2000aditional rock act singing the exact same song. Like you said the song is great and her performance on it is incredible. She deserves the nomination.
Coldplay has gotten rock nominations anf DHY is heavy metal in comparison to the songs they've been nominated for.

I also love how Bizjo said that no true rock musician would consider the song rock when they were the VERY ones who said just that

You think true rock critics are going to name Beyonce over actual rock artists? No. The nominations were decided based on who will bring in ratings.
                    Deluded as usual.

Whats delusional is thinking you know more about whats rock and what isn't than a comittee experts of that genre
If this were about 'ratings' (since when the hell do genre categories bring in ratings anyway ?
)than Daddys Lessons would have gotten A country nod and Formation would have gotten in the R&B firld.

Probably! Most overrated artist of all time. Does not write any of her songs and has not had as much impact as many artists in the past who barely have any grammys.

I'm still gagging at the fact that Lemonade had almost 100 writers on it, yet it's supposed to be her "most personable" record. She's no different than Rihanna in that regard, other than Rihanna actually helps with producing. Beyonce just sings and gets a nomination.

It's literally not. Before yes, but Rihanna was actually hands on with Anti in terms of production. I like how you left out the part where Lemonade had almost 100 writers because you know it's true. Not even Rihanna needed that much and she writes nothing

                                          Sandcastles:
As Beyonce worked on the project she received Sandcastles in February 2015, Berry said the songwriter knew he wanted to keep ownership of the record instead of signing a publishing agreement, but that meant making great sacrifices.
I wanted to own it and thats a harder road. That meant being homeless and sleeping in cars and garages and studios and thats what I was willing to do, said Berry, who now lives in Woodland Hills. I knew I couldnt sign a publishing deal knowing what they are essentially a high-interest loan. Why wb68ould I take that kind of deal?
On the final version of the record, which Berry heard ahead of the albums April release, Beyonce wrote a more hopeful ending than the one Berry originally penned.
And your heart is broken cause I walked away / Show me your scars and I won't walk away, Beyonce sang. And I know I promised that I couldn't stay, baby / [But] every promise don't work out that way.
                                          Daddys Lessons
Beyonc is a scientist of songs. Ive never seen anyone work the way she works. She definitely changes the song structures. She can take two songs, say, I like two lines, I like the melody then let me use that for a verse and a bridge and write the whole middle. Its more of a collaboration. You never know what shell like. I came to her with a bunch of songs and she was like, I like that verse, I like the idea. But she definitely doesnt take things as is, at least not from me.1 I came in on the Jack White song [Dont Hurt Yourself] and helped finish it.
                                          []
Youd written Daddy Lessons before you worked with her?
When I played it for her, I was like, This is one of my favorite songs.
She was like, This is my life. I told her, You know what, take it, do what you want with it. She went and re-produced it, she changed some words, added the bridge, its hers.
She didnt talk to me about her father. We didnt go into details. I see their relationship in the media just like everyone else. I watched the HBO special just like everyone else.
                                          Formation:
Will later ran into Bey at a hotel-room hangout with LeBron James and the Cavaliers, he says. And Bey was like, Yo, I like that formation idea. And I told her what I was thinking about the woman empowerment, and she was like, Yeah I kinda like that idea. And she just left it like that.
Although Beyonc wrote new verses for the song,
she built around the central mantra. We were just thinking about it being a female anthem, Will added. Because I knew I just wanted a banger with Beyonc, like a Single Ladies, but I wanted it to be a new kind of chant.
Will spent a week in the studio with Beyonc working on the track.
She took this one little idea we came up with on the way to Coachella, put it in a pot, stirred it up, and came with this smash, he says. She takes ideas and puts them with her own ideas, and makes this masterpiece. Shes all about collaborating. He added, Thats what makes her Beyonc. Being able to know what she wants.
A lot of people dont know what they want.
                                          Dont Hurt Yourself:
You're a business partner with Jay Z in his Tidal streaming seb68rvice as well. Is that how Beyonc got the idea of coming over and ringing your bell?
You know, I just talked to her and she said, "I wanna be in a band with you." [Laughs.] I said, "Really? Well, I'd love to do something." I've always loved her voice I mean, I think she has the kind of soul singing voice of the days of Betty Davis or Aretha Franklin.
She took just sort of a sketch of a lyrical outline and turned into the most bodacious, vicious, incredible song. I don't even know what you'd classify it as soul, rock and roll, whatever. "Don't Hurt Yourself" is incredibly intense; I'm so amazed at what she did with it.
                                          Come again?
I wanna see some receipts for Rihanns being hands on with Anti
And if you remove all the sample credits there were 47 writers involved in Lemonade. Thats one less person involved in Anti btw
