Wow, I've never seen this on an application. What job were you applying for?

Where they ask for your race, as if that reflects how well you will perform your job duties. For companies like Michael Kors, I personally know look policy is the most anal hiring rule. Easily on par with Abercrombie & Fitch circa 2010 form of hiring.

They do that for EEOC purposes.

Asking for references, particularly when they are required to be professional.

                1. there is a possibility that former bosses/ coworkers may have changed their job locations and/or be unreachable. Therefore, it may be difficult to contact them.
                2. It's basically judging a book by its cover, unless an employee did something drastic or extremely harmful (such as stealing or commiting a felony) then our previous job performances shouldn't affect of chances of being hired again.
                  Also, the race/ ethnicity question.
                3. mainly because I'm considered multiracial or "mixed" and I get sick of having to explain on paper that I consist of multiple races causing a simple answer to turn into one big story. Lol
