Honestly, I've always been a fan of this guy's work. I've seen a lot of people bashing him for constantly playing the chubby buddy with a kick-ass attitude, but it works so well for him! You wouldn't cast Russell Crowe as a skinny sidekick, so why would you cast Labine as anyone other than the part he plays?
That being said, I'm going to totally contradict myself and say that I'd like to see how he'd do in other roles. We know he can do the goofy best friend, but how would be fare in a more dramatic role, or even a comedic role here he wasn't the goofy guy? It's always a great opportunity when an actor gets to stretch his comfort zone and try new things, especially when it pays off.
That's one reason I'm excited for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES; that looks like he might be playing a role we haven't seen him do yet.
