Difficult to work with?

I read an interview with Diane Ladd who said when she was cast to play Belle, Linda was very nice and they got along great, but then once they started filming the show Linda was barely civil to her. Diane didn't know what caused the change.

I have heard all sorts of reports. But if that was the case, I am sure Linda feared another Flo situation with Ladd. After all, she was the original Flo in the film. She was Oscar-nominated for the role, and did win a Golden Globe for playing Belle on Alice (and in a year when Lavin didn't win).

When diane Ladd (The original Flo) was on and she played Belle, I heaerd that she and Linda were clashing as well, which is why she didn't last; Wether that's true or not. After Ceilia Weston came in as Jolene, I heard of no problems.

Doesn't anyone find that odd? I wonder if that's because Celia was unattractive and Linda had no competition or if she was threaten to be fired if she didn't make it work with Celia? I wish Linda wasn't such a bitch. She killed the show once Celia was added. All those episodes were corny and remakes from the first five years. Plus Jolene was a horrible character. I couldn't stand Alice after Diane left. And did everyone else notice that Diane's last episode featured her in a room talking on a phone to the gang saying she wasn't coming back? Reminds me of how they treated Suzanne Somers from Three's Company during her last episodes. -

Celia was not a threat at the time to Linda Lavin.Polly Holliday and Diane Ladd were. In a documentary when speaking of Alice, Linda referred to Polly and Diane as "We had two actresses and then a wonderful actress named Celia joined the show". She referred to both polly and diane as two actresses and did'nt even mention them by name. The only reason why people watched that show was for Flo and Vera,Linda was not that great and she is actually a very boring actress. Its sad flo did'nt do well because polly holliday was really funny and a great actress. When Aol had in2tv I watched some episodes from Polly's show Flo and thought it was quite good it just needed more time to develope the other characters.

I always found Linda Lavin annoying as hell, Diane Ladd has an ego the size of Texas by the way she harps about her career you'd think she was in the ranks of Vivien Leigh not really. Polly Holliday was fabulous and did steal the show, she was my favorite character. Got sick of Alice's constant whining about her life, raising her son alone blaw blaw blaw was cute for a while but it just got so damn old.

That was Lavin's character for goodness sake, not Lavin.
As far as Lavin being difficult; she was difficult enough so that not one but two fine character actresses left the show, "Alice". So, at one point, she was so difficult, she actually was a liability to the show's Producers because after each co-staring actress left the show because Lavin was so difficult, the show's ratings dropped.
