I'm sure that I've answered this question before on this message board, but I'll try again. I'm reasonably certain that he's Jewish but not 100 percent sure. For one thing, he's played several characters who were definitely Jewish, such as John Hunton in "The Mangler" and Eli Cooperberg th111ce Woody Allen-style dark comedy "You Can Thank Me Later." I think that Jake in "Georgia" was also Jewish, or, at least, his wife and her sister were. For another, Ted had the line "I thought I was back in Hebrew school" in "Crime Story." (I always wondered whether that line was adlibbed. I don't remember any other indication that Frank Holman was Jewish.) For another, the name Levine in itself suggests that he's Jewish. (All I know about his parents is that they were both doctors and very liberal in their politics.) Obviously, none of this is proof that he's Jewish, but I suspect that he is.

Everybody is so Goddamned pc these days. Asking about a person's ethnicity is a natural curiosity. There's nothing wrong with it at all.
I agree. And as Adam Sandler has made known to the public with his Chanukah Song, some of us Jews have a strange fascination with determining which celebs are Jewish and which aren't. It's the "Jew or Not a Jew" phenomenon (named for a famous SNL skit).
Mr. Levine is indeed, Jewish.
How do you know? I think most of us who have looked into the matter agree that Levine is usually a Jewish name, but we haven't seen any official confirmation that Ted Levine is. Do you have any? If so, could you share it? -

I think it's interesting also and I wonder if people are jewish or not because I'16d0m part jewish and find jewish culture interesting so i like to see what various people raised in it are like and how their cultural identity comes out in their acting.

Saw both of these films, and was just wondering what was the indication that he was Jewish in THE MANGLER? Also, saw and loved GEORGIA, I don't remember indicators saying his, his wife, or sister-in-law were Jewish?
Not saying you're wrong, and it doesn't matter, but did I miss something? -

his last name is Levine, The Levites were the tribe Moses rolled with. They wrote Leviticus, that long rule filled section of the bible after exodus(they wrote exodus too). If I heard correctly Levine has the Same root as Lion, and Luis. Being Jewish has nothing to do with whether your mother was Jewish, thats just a tradition. Lineally, if someone in your family ancestry was Jewish then you're Jewish(ehtnically not religiously). Moses great grandfather had so many kids that his Y chromosome is one of the most prevalent chromosomes on the planet. Another prominent Jewish last name is Cohen. Moses brother Aron was a Kohanim(priest). It is possible people renamed themselves so they would have prominent last names, but its also likely give how many children these family had that they married and had children with people who changed their name as well. Many people could be Jewish and not know it, even if there are no records you can pretty much find out with a DNA test. Its one of those cases where science data, and historical records seem to agree.

According to an article I found online, Ted said of himself that: "He's part Russian, Jewish, American Indian, and Welsh. He likes to call himself a 'rocking hillbilly Jew.'"
