Back when I was in college (A Very Long Time Ago) Larry did a MASH retrospective on my campus, I remember it was billed: " An Evening with Major Frank Burns ". Chatted with him afterwards for a couple minutes. Nice guy.

I saw him on his college tour in the late eighties. He was smashed. Funny, charming, but increasingly sad and bitter. He was clearly highly intelligent, forced (by alimonies?) to reprise a role that belittles him.
He showed a reel of Frank Burns clipsa not insignificant treat before YouTube. I was happy that the scene that he described as coming fom his favorite episode was a rare one where Frank was not the butt of the jokes. It made me sad too. That he was in the presence of the coolest of the cool, but he was always denied their fellowship.

I too remember his tours in the late 80s. I had been invited by my sister when he appeared at the state university in, I believe 1986. Then, the next year, he had a stop at my school. I also talked to him after the event, and I found him to be quite nice. I'll have to search for my college stuff as I know I got his autograph at that time, but I'll always remember him for being the nice guy that his MASH character was not.
