Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Bill Macy

I just bought the DVD of first year's episodes of Maude and am amazed at how brilliantly it was written and performed. It is as timely now as ever and deals with issues that still manage to shock and provoke. Bill Macy's "Walter" is a great character and a testament to the actor who plays him and especially given the wonderful chemistry he has with Bea Arthur's Maude. I can't wait for the release of the rest of the episodes.Should anyone know Mr Macy, please let him know how much his work is appreciated.

I'm glad he's still around (and working!) as well. I've just finished watching season one of "Maude," and Bill Macy did an excellent job with the character of Walter Findlay. He had terrific chemistry with Bea Arthur, and the shouting matches (as well as the resolutions) were convincingly acted. There's also quite a bit of physical comedy involved, and Bill and Bea carried it off with the grace of ballet dancers.
He's terrific in the movie "Serial" as well, which unfortunately is still not available on DVD.

I thought he did a great job as Maude's husband Walter too. He played it very well considering how over the top Maude was. Yes, I think Maude was a very well written and acted sitcom and I hope they release the rest of the seasons on dvd.
Glad Bill has had a long and successful career.

I am a huge Golden Girls fan and remember my mom telling me how great Bea Arthur was in Maude as well so I recently bought the first season. Of course Bea is fabulous as she always is5b4, but I think Bill Macy deserves just as much credit. What a talented actor and I agree that the chemistry between he and Bea were fabulous. I think it is too bad that Bill Macy never received an Emmy nomination for this role. He certainly deserved it! I think it might be nice if he received a special Emmy for his work over the years. His talents should not be forgotten and I am so glad to see he is still acting. If anyone out there knows Mr. Macy, please tell him that there is at least one fan out there that thinks he should have an Emmy or Golden Globe award on his mantle.
