Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Bruce Mahler

    styner-2 — 19 years ago(August 08, 2006 01:51 PM)

Those of us whose introduction to Bruce Mahler's work was the old ABC series "Fridays" will not need to be convinced that he is one of the most under-celebrated comedians of his age. His espangles-prattling, raw chicken-manipulating Tijuana DJ? Priceless! His stack-of-matzohs-breaking, kung-fu rabbi ? Conniption inducing!
Yet this guy was taking acting classes (and writing glowing endorsements for the teacher) in the late '90s. Clearly someone not overly impressed with himself.
I'd dearly love to see him get a proper vehicle for his near-surreal imagination and subtle artistry.

He was funny as Fackler in Police Academy, especially when he is carrying a mattress and turns to Mahoney to shake hands and introduce himself and at the same time knocking Jones out a door and down the stairs.

          Right, nothing cringeworthy about Bruce.
This is such a pity that poor Bruce is not appreciated by anyone except for a few of us here because he was rarely heard from since Fridays.
There is also a Mark something who has never been heard of since Fridays, and that is also a major shame because Bruce and Mark could have gone onto greatness if they already hadn't already achieved it there.
His IMDb Biography page says that Bruce has retired from acting at the turn of the century in order to produce stuff, but why not produce himself because he is what the public really needs right about now?
Those who remember him and his looks and fine work with favorability may tell us the same thing if they haven't already told us.

I'll never understand how comedy talent like his is overlooked while so many contemporary comedians are recycling his jokes and gaining plaudits for it.
