I love this movie! It's a classic and should have been released long ago. I hope they do add some extras on it. Sometimes those can be interesting. I will pre-order it ASAP. One for me and one for my sister, Sam. I won't even tell her I got her one I'll just let it arrive. She'll be thrilled! That really REALLY sucks that you guys don't get royalties for it. Next time put it in your contract! lol
I guess I can retire my old wobbly VHS copy I recorded off HBO so many years ago. lol
    Happy New Year Everyone!

A couple of years back a company called Pacific Family Entertainment was about to release NOTC on DVD but due to rights issues they never did, which is actually a good thing because it would have been a really crappy VHS-like quality DVD (judging by their other releases).

          Kelli,
          First, happy birthday yesterday!
I'm assuming that since you didn't mention it they have not asked you to do a commentary track for the DVD? I just rewatched the movie and I would love to hear your experiences as a commentary on the DVD. I hope I am wrong and you simply can't say anything.
          I've always loved this movie!

            Hi
No, I wasn't asked to do a commentary. I don't think anyone did one. Thank you for asking.

                Dear Kelli
I first saw Night Of the Comet during its run on Showtime a year after its release. And I must say, it was a memorable and wonderful experience for me as a huge science fiction fan. Especially at the age of thirteen.
I even wrote a Night Of the Comet fan fic that involved another part of the world that was also affected by Halley's Comet(during the same time that Regina, Samantha, and Hector were dealing with their own situations in Los Angeles). I basically set it in my home city of Louisville, Kentucky and it dealt with a small circle of junior high school kids, who were just as bewildered as Regina, Sam, and Hector were.
I'm glad that the film is now finally coming to DVD. It has been long in coming.
Are their any memories you have of the film that you can recall? Especially about working with Robert Beltran and the ever lovely Catherine Mary Stewart?
If their were a sequel, what would it be about, specifically?
Thanks for keeping us Comet fans informed. I'm definately looking forward to purchasing my copy in March.
                BlueThunder 01
P.S. I also liked your character in the film. Samantha was definately hilarious.

                  Hi all,
I am sorry to report that we have not recorded a commentary, as I would have liked us to do. I should point out that actors don't get any compensation for DVD release. I think we're supposed to, but I never have. I don't know of anyone else who has either.
I am just pleased that we are a "Turner Classic."

Kelli, you are so cool to be on this page. I saw this movie on the big sceen when it came out, on a first date when I was 17 years old. I realized, that we were not meant to be together because, she didn't get how great this movie was. It total sucks that you do not get compensation for the DVD, back in 1984 who know the big deal DVD's or even VHS's was going to be. There was no way you could have to thought of to put this in your contract. But, if the movie company had any soul, they would know you are the reason they are making more money on this movie. But, since they don't, all they see is the money and don't care about you. I read the IMBD threads all the time and have never posted before, but because you are so open and honest, I felt they need to.

Thanks! It means alot to me to talk to people and it's nice to know that people enjoy your work, of course. It's funny but actors mostly just take the deal that they are offered. Not many actors are able to dictate what gets in their contract. It might seem that way because ya read about big studio deals and stuff.

Had a crush on you then, still do now. Though I'm sure you already have a man who completely adores you. You still look as fantastic now as you did in your NotC Cheerleader uniform (which I'm glad to hear you still have).
I was so happy to read on your MySpace blog, and here, that one of my all-time fave 80's movies; Night of the Comet, is going to be on DVD soon.
Sad that they aren't doing actor's commentaries, at least this time. You've seen how studios do it; they release a movie on DVD, then a few months later, a "Special Edition", then an "Ultimate Edition" and so on. Hopefully, you all (Catherine, Robert, and yourself) can do a commentary and interviews on one of those versions.
I just hope it's in Widescreen format. Viewers lose so much withb68 fullscreen.
Best of luck on your endeavors.

Thank you. I have no idea what the DVD will be like. I hope it's as good as the fans expect it to be, after waiting so long for it. : )
A fan sent me a copy of the DVD cover, on which he had restored the byline, "It was the last thing on Earth they ever expected. " He tells me that the DVD tagline reads " They came, they shopped, they saved the world"
??????? I hope someone over at MGM or Turner Classics actually watched the film. This fan thought, and I agree, that this tagline misses the point of the film. What was so great about it was not that we were "heroes' but that we were just pretty typical Valley kids who found themselves in an incomprehensible situation and managed to come through it in a creative an5b4d entertaining fashion, not that we were Lolita Rambos to begin with!
Anyway, fingers crossed that the release is a huge success so we can do some extras on another DVD, as you said, and a sequel. Not a remake with interchangable kids and super duper CGI and special effects, but back down to the weird situations and characters that the fans liked in the first place.
Thanks for writing! Guess you caught me in a chatty mood!
                                Kelli

I dunno, you seemed pretty Ramboesque (as much as could be said for a HS cheerleader) testing out your new rifle on that old car, you looked like you were enjoying that ! ;-D

"They came, they shopped, they saved the world"
What the heck is up with that tagline?
Well Kelli, I definately remember seeing you shopping in the movie:) But I don't remember you saving the world. I mean I remember you saving two kids from blood-thirsty scientists (sounds like Dracula)butthe world was still therehardly any people, but it was still there. So it didn't seem like you were a Wonder Woman character in the film. To me you were just a cute valley girl cheerleader with the harsh reality of the world ending and worse of allNO FOOTBALL TEAM TO CHEER FOR! AHHHHHHHHH!:)
You know something Kelli? I don't think MGM cares about how special Night of the comet is to us fans. They probably just put it out on DVD with no extras or commentaries just to stop hearing us complain about them not putting it on DVD. It's like they're saying "Hear it's on DVD now shut up."
A lot of people don't like the cover of the soon-to-be-released DVD. Personally the part of the cover I like is you being on the cover. Seeing you in that colorful cheerleader outfit and the way you stole the show in NOTC reminds me of why I became one of your fansthis film.

How could you not be compensated for a DVD release? Didn't contracts include at least some royalty provisions for future video releases, whether in the5b4n current formats like VHS and Beta, or in future formats? Or were you all just paid cash and told to 'go home' at the end of shooting. Sounds like a crappy deal.
I always liked NOTC. The whole 1980s music and look make it an enjoyable film today.

Funny how they don't have to pay you when they release the DVD, but when I used to buy CD's to replace LP's I have - I have to pay full price (while I should only be paying for the disc, as I already paid for the content). He who has the law firm
