A very gentle man

When my brother and I were kids, we attended a picnic to which we were invited by a Ukrainian-American friend in Los Angeles. As kids, we had no idea who this man was, but he came over and talked with us and my parents took photos. This was in the mid 1980's. He was so gentle and kind. Only later on did I recognize him in films We felt very lucky to have met him.
I just read here that he had two children . one of them a daughter who is an actress born in 1948 .. is she still in the business? I'm always curious about what line of work children of film people are into.
