They did a send up of two "b" movie actors Troy Donahue and Doug McClure ergo Troy McClure who's voice was done by the late great Phil Hartmann

Donahue got to spoof his image. I don't recall that Doug ever d1c84id, a la Adsam West and Bill Shatner. Too bad. It's not like McClure didn't live a fairly long life. He only died in 1995.

I recall an episode of Out Of This World where McClure actually says "Hi, you might remember me from".

That was his catch-phrase on "The Simpsons." "Hi, I'm actor Troy McClure. You might remember me from" Phil Hartman repeated that in several Simpsons episodes, in fact every time he portrayed Troy MccLure.
I really am not certain whether or not he ever owned a DeLorean. I think the writers were probably attempting to come up with the cheesiest, most faux-luxury automobile they could for Troy to drive.

The character of Troy McClure on The Simpsons was designed after him along with Troy Donahue. Mike Reiss, executive producer of The Simpsons, said that Doug McClure's daughter informed him that Doug was a big fan of The Simpsons. She said that while watching an episode Doug saw the character Troy McClure on the show and said, "Are they making fun of me?" Doug said he thought the parody was funny and his kids would call him Troy McClure behind his back as a joke.[2]
