The atmosphere in Zombie Flesh Eaters is something you don't see often in movies of today. Infact it is so rare to see such atmosphere that I don't remember when I last saw a movie that was creepy like this movie.

The thing that makes a lot of the eighties horror movies special is the score. It can be considered cheesy by some if going by todays standards of musical scores. But I will take the eigh16d0ties horror movie scores over the horror movie music of today's movies, every time!.
Demons, Demons 2, Zombie Flesh Eaters, Return of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Phantasm too name but a few of the movies with kick ass scores.

Certainly one of the main factors. The lack of synthesizers and minimal feel to it, with the evergrowing use of metal or even hip hop makes it just worse for me. Heck, even Carpenter started used guitars on In the Mouth of Madness. Luckily, the film itself pulled it off. But he contiues in the same fashion ever after, just the films weren't as exciting and that metal music makes the whole case even worse. Just the first example on my mind, although I can still watch all of his newer films at least once without being totally frustrated.

The only movies I can think of at the moment that pull off a musical score AND metal music score is Demons and Ghosts of Mars. Scott Ian from Anthrax did the Metal guitar work you hear in the background on Ghosts of Mars.
I love Megan Fox and I also liked her movie Jennifer's Body (even though it had a couple of flaws). The biggest flaw to the movie Megan was in was the music chosen for the movie. It was a cross between MTV styled Metal music and God knows whatb68 else. It ruined the movie when the bands played in the background. It did kill the atmosphere of the scenes they were used in. But thankfully they were not used all the time. See the ambient music in Jennifer's Body, it was creepy, they underused the ambient stuff. I don't understand why though as the movie was rated 18 here in Scotland (and the UK in general) which was probably an R rating in the US. So why the crappy music to appeal to the younger audience if they are unable to view the movie due to the rating. Doesn't make sense if you ask me lol.
John Carpenter's score for his "Vampires" movie was a bit guitar filled. It was suited to the movies theme I thought. It can work, if done right. Otherwise it will just be a bit of a mess.
Check out my Youtube tribute to Lucio Fulci (and the Zombie Flesh Eaters movie).
The music used in it is a remix of the movies main theme. It's preformed by Gwar.
I have six different versions of the main theme of Zombie Flesh Eaters.
