I love it how all the Parker Posey fans think that PP was a well established name in 1995 and thus PMP's parents must have committed name-theft. Puhlease! Nobody except her obsessed fans even knew who the heck PP was at the time. I didn't even know her name until "Best in Show" and one of those Scream movies, and I watch alot of movies. She's a good actress and all, but c'mon, the only prolific and noteworthy thing about Parker Posey is her name, so please stop being so pretentious and thinking that everyone must've known who she is. Actually, since her name IS the only noteworthy thing, I can see why her fans are upset that there is another.

The reason why people speculate this is because the name is very unusual. Parker, as a first name, is probably even more unusual, and the older actress was named Parker after someone else's LAST name being Parker, so for someone to have such an unusual combination of names, and then have another person named the exact unusual name (not the middle name) is why. Whether she was originally going to be an actress or not is not the issue. The older actress was already an established indy actress and her name was out ther.
It would almost be like there being another person named Whoopi Goldberg. If someone nowadays was named that, and I'm sure there is, would you say, "Oh, it's just a coincidence, because they were born before "Ghost" came out"? I wouldn't buy it and neither would anyone else, including you. Just because you didn't know the actress in the 1995 doesn't mean other people didn't. And she was in a few popular movies before 1995. Ever heard of Coneheads? Dazed and Confused? Sleep With Me?
Parker Posey is too unusual of a name for it to be just a coincidence. I still think, no matter what people say, they had probably seen the actress or heard of the actress's name from somewhere, and thought it was an interesting name for their child. Again, it is just too unusual and too coincidental.
I'm sure if I said my last name was Kaplan, I had been born in 1978, and told people it would just a coincidence, there isn't a person that would buy it.

What in the hell is wrong with you. She is a child. Do you really think she had a say in it?
All you people thinking this is name theft should put down the bong and get a life. Names are free. Do you think that every puerto rican with the name Jesus is a thief?
