How ironic it is that Bill McKinney originated from Tennessee and ended up playing a psychopathically vengeful Union cavalry Captain Terrill of the infamous Red Legs unit.
Bill McKinney as scruffy Captain Terrill was one of the most evi2000l-looking, creepy and dangerous on-screen villains to grace the classic Westerns. My congratulations to Mr. Bill McKinney for being one of the most successful character actors who specialized in heinous villains.
Another ironyseveral past Hollywood actors who made a successful living playing cold-blooded or insane villains were reputedly among the nicest guys in real life to people who knew them. Goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover all the time. -

It's really not that ironic. He is from Chattanooga in eastern Tenneesee and that area was strongly pro-Union as they could not relate the the planation owners in western Tenneesee.
The rest I agree with.
