Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — John McNaughton

    Nijn1978 — 20 years ago(October 22, 2005 12:49 AM)

He's directing a movie called The Night Job with Ray Liotta, Robin Wright Penn and Marisa Tomei.
I'm so glad that John McNaughton is still making movies. Although Speaking of Sex wasn't good, I think he's made three great movies. They are:

    1. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
One of the most creepy and haunting movies I've ever seen.
    2. Normal Life
Hugely underrated movie. Ashley Judd and Luke Perry (YES! That Luke Perry! Couldn't believe it either) give great performances. This movie works on several levels; as a drama, a thriller, a slice of Americana, and as a satire on the Western Consumerist Lifestyle.
    3. Wild Things
New Yorker critic Pauline Kael said something like that sometimes there can be no greater art than great trash. Wild Things fits in that frame of mind. Even actor Kevin Bacon stated that he found the script to be so bizarre, funny and over-the-top that he decided to star and produce the movie.
I just wish that more people would recognize his talents, so he could more movies. McNaughton deserves a comeback!

I'm happy that John McNaughton is still directing movies. "Henry: Portrait of A Serial Killer" and "Normal Life" are both excellent movies. I also thoroughly enjoyed "Wild Things" as well.
"Warren Oates died for our sins"
