Anyone seen her live?

I saw her around the "Miles of Aisles" eraI guess it was 1972?at Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass. A summer night, Joni on that semi-open-air stage, her voice wafting out across the lawns; it was truly magical. Maybe the best show I ever went to.

I saw her in Tanglewood twice, one time was Miles of Aisles. I also did a little stalking. I figured out what hotel she was staying at and waited in the lobby until the elevator opened and she was there knitting something as she walked into the lobby. I got to talk to her and get her autograph on the album cover. I also saw her in Boston twice and got in backstage and when she was leaving she signed my concert ticked. She gave me the pen back and I said "It's your pen", I was kicking myself over that for awhile. Then again in an outside venue that some one else mentioned during the Shadows and Light concert with Klein. The background lighting was not to her liking and people were milling around and she was very upset and ended the concert after only a few songs. Some of the kids were yelling out their car "Joni Sucks" but I was just happy to hear her. I regret that I was not so bold when I went to the Laura Nyro concerts. I would have loved to talk to her and see her up close but I was just intimidated by her greatness and mystery.

Yep. Saw her in Los Angeles, August 17, 1974, with my best girl. We were 21, at the time. Little did we both know that Miles of Aisles would be taken from the Los Angeles shows. I can still see her, in her long flowing dress onstage, holding that Martin D-18. It was nothing short of magical, and of all the concerts that I have been to in LA, it was the best. The album is only a tantalizing taste,of what she was like, live.

That a great story about the "good" kind of stalking! You were so fortunate to see Joni early in her career. I didn't see her until the early '90s, when she did area shows with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison. She was really intimidated by the size of the venue, and the audience had to reassure her, but she was wonderful.
I saw Laura Nyro in a small club, but I wouldn't feel worthy of walking up to her to get an autograph. Sadly, I'll never even have the chance again. -

Cleveland, early 70's. We were supposed to get tickets from somewhere, but that never came through, so the tickets we bought were in the back of the 3rd balcony! She was a little speck on stage.
During intermission, I went up to the stage to get some photos. When Joni came back out, I was trapped in the aisle by everyone else trying to do the same. As usual, Joni was not pleased to see people not in their proper places! I wasn't complaining - but my GF wasn't too happy, either.
Still, a magical night.
Might have seen her at a Newport Folk or Jazz festival, but I'm not sure. Was hoping to see her at Woodstock - but as usual - she was always somewhere else.
Had some friends who got a bunch of velvet and made a robe for her. They took it to a concert and were allowed to give it to her backstage. While waiting, my friends111c turned to look at something - and when they turned around the rest of their friends were gone, while they were left behind. -

Sadly, I think the chances are slim to none. Joni hasn't toured in years, and she didn't seem to really care for playing in front of large audiences. At least there are several good concert DVDs and albums of her live performances.

For the person who asked when Joni last toured, I think it was a North American-only tour in 2000 to support
