I know that a number of landmark rock and pop albums were recorded in Miami, but I'm only recently learning that the area (Coconut Grove in particular) was also a magnet for folk artists in the 60's. I read on a blog that Joni Mitchell was discovered by David Crosby at a Miami club called the Gaslight. Is this true? I wonder how Joni was in Miami at that time. Also, I read Crosby's autobiography years ago, and I don't recall him mentioning it. But I do remember David saying he met his wife Jan in Miami; she was an engineering assistant at Criteria Studios apparently.
If anyone can recommend a good bio of Ms. Mitchell, I'd be grateful. Apparently there's one by an Englishman called Hinton which is really awful. -

Joni was already becoming famous before she met David Crosby.
There is a book called
Girls Like Us
, which is a biography of Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and Carole King that was released earlier this year. I read it a couple of months ago. It was written by Sheila Weller.
I go online sometimes, but everyone's spelling is really bad. It'sdepressing.
