I agreed with his politics, but didn't get why he was chosen as the replacement for Larry King, it was a little odd.
He just was not very likeable, even if you did agree with him. He did bring an outsider's opinion of U.S. culture, but as Americans we don't usually like to be critiqued by outsiders.
I also think he just got frustrated (and thus more jerky) about the way things work here, which didn't make sense to him being from a more liberal place. And that's the truth, while this country is still having its internal cold war between conservatives and liberals, much of Europe has dealt with these issues and settled them before we have (gun control, health care, same sex rights).
At least we are ahead of Russia though lol. So long Piers, sorry we frustrated you so much. Coming from Europe, I suspect he just saw too much he didn't like and couldn't hide it. -

He is a very close friend of Simon Cowell having pretty much given him the break that took his career on the path to x factor and all that crap. He did this by prompting Cowell's albums when Piers was a newspaper editor. Years later Cowell helped him out getting him into a position where he could get the job King left open. This is probably how it happened.
