    How does that change the fact that the U.S. still has one of the lowest homicide rates in the New World?
    Mexico,Jamaica,Brazil,ect. all have higher homicide rates.Tell me why gun control advocates like to compare the U.S. to countries half way around the world,instead of ones in our own back yard?
    Btw,is Russia not a developed nation?What is this non-sense about developed nations?Why not mention overall homicide rates?Dead is dead isn't it?

        Even if true you're trying to basically say it doesn't matter because the USA is not the worst? Total cop-out argument for me. You are also trying to compare countries which are not of the same socio-economic standard where freedom of speech may not be an option. It's like a child's way to justify wrongdoing: 'I know what I am doing is wrong but the kid next door did the same thing & he didn't get into trouble'.

          That's not what I'm doing at all.I just saying that the U.S. is a relatively safe nation.Therefore I think we are doing something right.Check out the current FBI data,we are at our lowest homicide rates since around.1960. While every murder is terrible,I think this shows we are headed in the right direction.

            Fair enough. But if you take the option for automatic weapons away you decrease the odds of massacres like this happening. As a civilian why do you need an automatic weapon. Rifles for hunting, handguns for home safety are fair enough, but automatic weapons is just gun lust to me.

              I honestly don't own any guns that are on the current assualt weapons ban list,most of my guns are single single shots shotguns and muzzle loading rifles.However,I don't think for a minute that gun control advocates will stop at "assault weapons."

                @mercurialdnb,
                Obviously, you are either not an American or know nothing about this topic. But you sure do have an opinion on it. And it shows that you are misinformed. But don't let that stop you from having an opinion.
                That is what I love about this gun control "debate." People are so passionate and have opinions on it but know nothing about it.
                For your information automatic weapons have been banned in the United States since 1934. So the opti5b4on for automatic weapons has been taken away for a very long time.
                Want to try again?

                  @MGurlea I apologise, I was referring to the assault weapons ban which expired in 2004. I'm not so good with gun types, probably because I'm not an American. Anyway I will bow out of this debate because as a foreigner I obviously know nothing about anything, I mean I dont have access to world news via the internet do I now. It also sickens me that some of you are defending your right to bear arms so much. I'm sorry but as a non paranoid American I have no understanding of this.

                              Bloomberg is trying to make it a reality in NYC:

                              • No big size sodas
                              • No cigarrettes sales.

                                Way to aim low. You're below both Argentina and Canada in America, and that's supposed to be good? Developed countries ought to compare with other developed countries, meaning you should include European countries. As a matter of fact, why not just include all the world?
                                America from an economical standpoint ought to have the potential to be best in so many ways, but it's really only in terms of pure economic output you've got other countries beat. Many other important stats like average life span, obesity rates, school ratings and so on have you low among the developed countries.
