Little Big Man is a great movie and he was a great general Custer. The only other movie I've seen with him was Heavenly Kid and I liked it too. I thought more people would be talking about him but maybe he didin't get the fame he deserved, that's a shame rest in peace.

I loved Richard Mulligan in both Soap and Empty Nest.I have watched a lot of soap on dvd recently, and his physical comedy is pure genius.I have not seen Little Big man or Heavenly KId,but I will look for them in the video store. I just saw him in S.O.B. by Blake Edwards, and he is so funny. He plays a producer on the verge of suicide, because the movie he produced lost big money.I know it doesn't sound funny, but it is.All Richard Mulligan fans please write.Thanks.

Sorry, cuz,
But if you use Mulligan's performance of Custer as to how you teach your students on historical figures, NOW WONDER THIS COUNTRY IS BECOMING MORE F%$#*D
UP EACH YEAR. GO TO RUSSIA!!!! If you HATE AMERICA that much, don't infect our kids!!!! While (acting wise) Mulligan was the ONLY talent in that film, historically it was completely flawed. As a history teacher(???? degreee from commie U?) you should see that. What a piece of crap you are for polluting our kid's heads. Take me on.

You wingnuts are all alike. You can't handle it when it is pointed out that every episode and player in American history wasn't noble and comported with some mythical view that didn't really exist. Most historians would probably say that Little Big Man is one of the more accurate portrayals of the American west that was ever put to celluloid and Mulligan's performance was probably spot on.

While I agree that RM's take on Custer is fictionalized, and should never be a source of history for kids, I don't think you need to be angry. Simply suggest to the OP that his/her students READ an ACTUAL BOOK about Custer. Tough sell, I know.
I recommend "Son of The Morning Star"

Reactionaries and fascists will be true to form. Then, they will die, along with their hatred. I stand by everything I said. Richard Mulligan was wonderful and memorable as Custer, and his performance shone a comically satirical light on a despicable character.
