Hi Adam,
Everyone has there opinion and being a fan you cam only base it on what you read. Unfortunately many people wrote things that were far from true. So that limits people's view of the truth.
I was there in person and part of the daily working of the picture. Being a principle in two of the films and working with people for a few years. Everyone gets to know each other rather well.
I have never really told all the truth of the problems of the films. Because like a family that was our business and no one else.
Your correct there were many people involved in the making of Superman. Truth is no one submerged them selves in the best way to make the films than Donner and Mankavitze ( spelling of Tom's name is probably wrong).
But ask yourself this question who cut's Marlon Brando out of a movie when his performance was so brilliant. They cut him out of two and that was because of money.
Donner would have done three and four which would have given the fan base a great group of films. Set a premise for the franchise to climb even better.
Hackman was not coming back because of commitment to other projects he could handle any of that being who he is. Gene wanted Donner on the set.
I loved doing the films and they are great movies. But they would have been even better yet and it is not fair to cheat the fan base. -

Hi jack
Thanks for replying really aprechate it.
I do have a lot of sympothy for Dick lester when he did Superman 2 again as you said i like other fans dont know the whole story. But from what ive read from more than just 1 story Dick lester was offerd to take over superman 2. Now surley when your offerd to carry out the task of trying to make superman 2 even better than superman 1 your not gonna turn it down.Plus i know youve said your not the biggest fan of Lester but none of it was his fault surley. With Hackman going off Brando not coming back etc.
I know a lot of footage was allready from Donner but the footage that Lester short was really good aswell.
Also sorry wanted to reply about Marlon Brando. He was a really really amazing actor noone can dispute that but surley i aint been rude or disrespectful but asking the amount he was asking for about 10 minutes altogther aint that a bit to much. -

Adam,
You don't understand the footage for Brando was in the can already. That is why Donner 27yrs later could show it in his version. The Salkins cut him out of the movie, so they didn't have to pay his contract that was already done.
Best

You are look at something taken from writers who only have hear say to write from. When people who were there and experienced actual happenings. You preferr to dispute them. Something is very wrong with manor of thinking.

Mr. O'Halloran
You had mentioned in v1908arious interviews that the late Christopher Reeve had not done anything film wise before he worked on Superman - The Movie. That he had only done theater and a soap opera, in general.
I'm afraid your information is incorrect in that specific area.
It turns out that he did one film prior to Superman - The Movie. That film being 'Gray Lady Down' from Universal(which was also released in 1978). Although his role was small, he could be seen quite a bit in various scenes with Stacey Keach, the late David Carradine, and future Superman co-star Ned Beatty.
The imdb can confirm that aforementioned information. -

Hi Everyone, just finished watching the new DVD release, got it from Walmart.com.
Great print, full screen, and subtitles. Now I know something that had always been bugging me since I first saw itit is "Fei Tsui Jade". I always wondered at the correct spelling. For those of us who never saw it in a theater, this is quite a treat now. Crystal clear resolution, you can appreciate the marvelous performances from Robert Mitchum on down, everyone is just great. A true classic now getting the credit that is due. Craftsmanship was superb, great sets, and David Shire's wonderful, perfect scorebullseye ! Might have more
