Okay, not to act like a dick. But OP has a point; no cause of death, and you have to admit, it's a VERY mysterious death to say the least. Just dies in her sleep at 46 with pretty much no medical problems whatsoever? And is he really a jerk for asking if the death was suspicious?
As someone who works with people in Hollywood, I will tell you it's a dirty and corrupt place with a LOT of drugs going around. I mean, the things I know about people in the business that make the mainstream news sound like church. Whether anyone chooses to believe me is beyond the point. We don't know what could have honestly been going on in the Oswalt household. Patton could be a druggie, his wife may have been a druggie. Patton, you never know. Funny guy on TV, but could be a real, total a-hole in his personal life. You never know if they had some kind of marital problems. You never know if he snapped, slipped something in her food/drink to get rid of her. Not impossible. Maybe money problems, he wanted her life insurance policy. Maybe he's some kind of sociopath. Look how many comedians have psychiatric problems, eg. anxiety, depression, schizophrenia. Their comedy is used to cover their dark thoughts and negativity.
More evidence; look at photos of him on the web with his wife. I would say at least half of his photos, he got kind of this "fake smile" with her. Some photos he's barely smiling at all. He doesn't exactly have tb68hat bright smile of a guy who is deeply in love and enthusiastic about his wife.
It's always easy when someones wife dies to expect the husband to have been responsible in some way. I'm not saying Patton Oswalt is a murderer. Chances are he is NOT. But what I am saying, there is always that 1% chance he did something. You never truly know. It's important to find the truth because it would be wrong to give sympathy to a killer, which has happened before and will happen again.

I don't see anything wrong at all with the OP's questioning this whole, vague process. What DID cause this relatively young woman to just die in her sleep? What is the holdup with an autopsy and official cause of death? And to the poster who keeps 111csaying it's none of our business/well, of course it's our business. A young, (supposedly healthy), mother just dies in her sleep, (how awful!), so yes, we want to know how something like this could happen. Do you expect to wake up in the morning to find where young, healthy people have just died in their beds? Is that normal in your household? Plus, we can't just ignore what she did for a career. She wrote about true crimes, mainly murders/so, of course we are curious if her career and private life somehow collided. Michelle McNamara had a high profile career with a lot of followers and fans, so you can't get angry or defensive at the public for wanting some answers.

Unless the OP is a family member or a beep detective hoping for an IMDB confession it is none of their business. I am curious too but the family has no obligation to release the cause of death. They may be keeping it quiet to respect her memory. It's possible she died drugs or even committed suicide. If her family besides Patton and Alice is old fashioned. They would never discuss such matters.

It is a legitimate question. She was young, and her husband is famous. Plus he talks about it publicly. They do it to everyone, so unless they stop questioning all other such deaths, people do deserve a right to ask.

Exactly. There is nothing wrong with simply asking especially when he is so vocal about it. The thing I notice about his comments too. they're very much about HIM. HIS grief, HIS experience how HE wanted her to get some rest so he told her to sleep until she wakes up. How HE went to get her favorite coffee for her and when he returned she wasn't breathing. (A very self serving comment - look how nice of a husband I was). Now he comes out with this speculation that she OD'd on Xanax by mistake and how that's what the paramedics on the scene told him while HE was crying and throwing up (look how hysterical I was.. poor me).
There is a huge chance he had nothing to do with it but why can't people simply ask the question? Because he's famous and people like him? People who don't even know him?
Frankly even if he had nothing to do with it his "look at me and MY feelings" comments are rather off putting.
It took me three hours to figure out that FU was Felix Ungar.

The whole thing is a bit suspect. I get taking xanax to get to sleep, I've done it myself, but unless you're combining with other drugs and/or alcohol, it takes quite a bit to fatally OD, and it wouldn't be a question, an autopsy would say, point blank, X amount of Alprazolam found in system. Whose prescription was it? If they were hers then that's one thing. If they were Patton's, though? It doesn't take much imagination from there. At best the guilt would be considerable, at worst it's a wrongful death suit. Either way I hope it's nothing more sinister than that, despite everything I really like Patton, I've met him twice and he was always gracious and friendly,
